I had an early dinner with friends, and it was a great experience. The waitress was very friendly and didn’t rush us at all, which was nice since we were quite chatty and took our time ordering. We lingered even after finishing our meals. The booth we sat in was comfortable and quiet, making it a lovely spot to catch up. We ordered a variety of dishes, and everyone enjoyed their meals. The menu felt a little limited, so I ended up choosing a selection of appetizers, which I was happy with.
We have been Max customers since the first Max decades ago south of downtown Hartford. The Springfield branch has always been good, but now always great. My wife and I had a reason to celebrate tonight, and it being a Monday, the options were limited. Our main courses at the Tavern were splendid (Scallops and a Fish Stew). The new summer wine list also had a lot going for it. Desserts tend to be mega calorie affairs, but my lady enjoyed hers. Service is uniformly professional, but the odds of you seeing your server a month or two down the road is unlikely. Still, it is the place we take out of towners, and ourselves, when we don't want to experiment-just know we are going to have a fine meal.
