China Star
Description
A beloved Springfield staple, China Star offers a wide, affordable menu of reliably fresh, generously portioned Chinese classics—from sesame and General Tso’s to shrimp broccoli and garlic chicken. Friendly, speedy service, an open kitchen and quick pickup/delivery make it perfect for lunches, takeout or casual dinners. Dishes are well presented and often spicy, so order with kids in mind. Longtime locals praise its consistent quality, though a few customers report unclear menu/pricing and occasional order confusion.

We typically place our orders in advance and pick them up at the restaurant. When you call ahead, you can expect your food to be "ready in ten minutes," and they never keep us waiting. We also enjoy dining in from time to time, and the food is consistently amazing whether you take it to go or eat there. You can still expect it to be ready in ten minutes or less. I really appreciate the beautiful dishes they serve the food in; they’re simple yet enhance the overall presentation. They offer self-serve drinks and utensils, and if you ask, you can find chopsticks available behind the counter. The first and last thing you notice when you enter and exit are the stunning plants they always have on display. I also like that you can watch the food being prepared in an open kitchen right behind the counter. My go-to dish is always the Shrimp Broccoli, which features a delicious brown sauce, flavorful jumbo shrimp, and comes with a generous side of white rice.
I've been a fan of China Star since I was a kid, and even at 36, it's still my favorite spot for delicious food. The garlic chicken is fantastic, and I highly recommend the chicken lo mein, broccoli chicken, orange chicken, General Tso's chicken, and the egg rolls—they're all excellent!
I had a terrible experience with the customer service and order-taking at this restaurant. When I ordered the Sesame Chicken, they said it would take 10 minutes. However, when I went to pick it up and pay, I found out it was twice as expensive as listed on the menu. I mentioned that I had ordered the Sesame Chicken, which comes with an egg roll, but they insisted I had ordered the dinner portion. I argued that I simply ordered the Sesame Chicken. They just need to make it clear on their menu!
