Great food and service, thoroughly enjoyed it. Tried to prebook but recently renamed so got through to the wrong number. Needs solving as you’re losing booking’s. Tandoor prawns outstanding. Lamb kebabs could have been more tender. Wine list very good. Thanks View all feedback.
What paulrE2971OL doesn't like about India:
This is quite a small restaurant and seating close to each other. The staff were very quiet but seemed nice people. The service was good throughout. The food though was mixed. The mixed tandoori grill was expensive and the tandoori chicken had not been seasoned for long enough and the fish was greasy. The sheek was nice and the tikka and prawn good. The rice was ok and a good portion. The chicken curry (Mirchii I thi... View all feedback.
It is unfortunate that the restaurant has closed down. It is very sad as they were known to be the best Indian restaurant in Kendal. It seems like the combination of high rent and the challenges brought on by COVID-19 were too much for them to overcome.
A group of us were staying in Kendal on a Wednesday evening in mid November. We booked into the India Restaurant and had an excellent meal. The food was very good and service first rate. Throughout the evening the service was prompt and friendly but never pushy. Certainly recommended.

Excellent spur the moment takeaway. Staff hardworking and chatty. Tasty spices an enjoyable experience
After reading the glowing reviews on Google and Facebook, we decided to try this restaurant on our way back from Windermere. It is now called Jheel and has recently obtained their alcohol license. The staff are friendly and the food is decent, but nothing exceptional. When we asked for table water, the glasses were dirty and the water jug was also unclean. Our gin and tonic was flat and warm, but was replaced after we brought it to the attention of a staff member. The Coke we ordered was served in a small glass from a large bottle and was also flat. It would be better if they offered single glass bottles of mixers and soft drinks. The poppadoms were stale and overpriced at £7 for 4 plain poppadoms and a pickle tray. The food was okay, but lacked flavor. The restaurant has just changed ownership and seemed unprepared with their pricing and lack of drinks menu. There was no children's menu, only half size portions which were not half the price. The final bill was surprisingly high, with 3 mains and a half portion for two adults and two children totaling £82. We were even charged extra for sauce to go with the shashlik, which is a dry dish. Overall, we were disappointed and feel that we could have dined at a higher-end establishment for the same price. It's a shame as the reviews were so positive, but we won't be returning.
