I twice bought a pie here during a week's stay in Ambleside. While not cheap, they were vegetarian, tasty and very generously filled (and much much better value than Ambleside's rather over-priced restaurants). They also sell a range of salads in pots (the roasted veg were excellent) and local bottled beer (at a slightly lower price some some of the more specialist shops). View all feedback.
What Dennis H doesn't like about Rattle Gill Cafe:
FRUIT SCONE.. No! Unlawful false advertising we would say. What is the point in offering a fruit scone when it is laden with so much cinnamon that nothing other than the spice can be tasted? Undedible and uneaten. We rated it as the worst scone ever. View all feedback.
We stopped at this restaurant for lunch to take with us on our climb up Helvellyn mountain. There were plenty of options for vegetarians, vegans, and those with gluten allergies. We chose the sweet potato and spinach pie, smoked tofu and salad sandwiches, and Anzac cookies (all vegan). These meals were exactly what we needed when we reached the summit of the mountain - they were delicious! The pie was incredibly moist and tasty. We liked the food so much that we returned the next day to buy more of the same, along with some vegan shortbreads for our journey home. This place is a combination of a shop and a cafe, so there are plenty of food and drink items available for purchase.
We enjoyed our take away lunch, freshly made and full of flavours, very reasonable price for our drinks and sandwiches.
We were looking for a healthy takeaway lunch and thank goodness we tried Rattle Ghyll Deli. Absolutely delicious food. We had a salad bowl crammed with so many tasty ingredients and also a stunning falafel wrap. The food is fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. The staff are lovely.
Have bee here many times. Sad that it's shut for Covid. makes sense as it's very small. but please come back when you can
So many options to choose from! A family of four vegetarians were lucky to come across this hidden gem! They were delighted by the wide array of freshly made savory dishes, including scotch eggs, sweet potato and goat cheese. The VLT sandwich was tasty, as were the vegetable frittata and fresh salad. The selection of salads was amazing! Highly recommended for a delicious meal!
