Was Anonym at Elysium a mag?
I've been coming to the Elysium since it was a small place on the not so fashionable side of Randwick. The food, if the chefs have a free hand, is wonderful. But, since moving to the Spot, they seem to have been tricked or forced into providing food for the masses. It's a shame; they're capable of so much more. Now the restaurant is a place of echoing voices, loud music and patchy food and service. I was there on a T... View all feedback.
What Anonym dislikes about Elysium:
The place looks good and has a nice wine bar but that is all. We were very disappointed with our pizzas. Hardly any toppings and quite cheaply done. Poor choice on the menu also. Would not go back again. View all feedback.
The restaurant had average decor and the service was okay. The pizza was tasty, but the use of a low quality sausage ruined it. I wouldn't recommend this place, as there are better options available, even at kebab shops.
I can't believe that the pizza oven wasn't even warmed up before dinner service at this pizza restaurant! The pork belly, which was supposed to be a favorite, was dry, flavorless, and overpriced. The carbonara pasta was so undercooked that the fettuccine noodles were stuck together. When we brought these issues to the staff's attention, they didn't seem to care. We definitely won't be coming back.
My friends and I decided to try this restaurant out since we've been exploring local eateries. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The food was not only expensive but also lacked flavor. The cocktails tasted artificial and we could sense a burning smell throughout our meal. The staff seemed uninterested and the overall experience was underwhelming. Given the variety of other dining options in the area, we won't be returning. On a positive note, the food arrived quickly and there were nice candles to create a cozy atmosphere.
Having chosen a local restaurant to celebrate my son's 27th birthday, a group of nine of us booked a table at this restaurant. I have to say that the atmosphere is good and the waitstaff are friendly. Our waiter was quite attentive and everything seemed to be going quite well ... until the food was meant to roll out. That's when the problems started. Many (but not all) of the table ordered entrees. My son's entree (a pasta dish) did not appear (the waiter later and openly accepted responsibility for this as he neglected to mark it as an entree and that it wasn't prepared along with the others; at this point in time we cancelled that order). Not a big issue - we had plenty of 'starters' to keep him nourished. Then the entrees were finished. Before I knew it, my wife's main dish arrived on the table. OK, perhaps the kitchen was turning the meals around quicker than we expected. No ... that wasn't the case because nothing else arrived. Instead of sending it back to the kitchen to be kept warm (it was a duck dish and would have become unpalatable with such practice) my wife chose to continue with the meal. Nearing the end of her meal, the mains started to arrive. My son's entree (the one that we cancelled earlier) arrived. It was sent back to the kitchen with the explanation that it was no longer required. The waitress who had brought the entree out took the meal around the corner and immediately reappeared to serve it up to me as my main dish (which happened to be the same food as my son's entree). I questioned the first waiter on the portion size and he confirmed that it was an entree: Back it went to the kitchen only to appear in quite a dishevelled state a few minutes later (I still feel that it was the same serving size simply 'messed up' on the plate to make it seem more). The other mains started to arrive as they should (though my wife needed to sit and watch us eat). Thereafter the night went OK. My thoughts are that the kitchen totally stuffed this night up (not helped by the fact that one of the waitstaff attempted to pull the wool over our eyes). All in all, we had a good night and can laugh at the mis-timing of the foods, but we will most probably not consider this restaurant in our future outings.
Made a visit to elysium on a cold Sydney winter's night so was attracted to the Cauliflower soup to warm me up and I was not disappointed. The soup came with calamari strips, roast almonds and amarrato jelly. The soup was great but would have been better without the jelly which detracted from the overall flavour of the dish. The main was pesto and herb encrusted Lamb shoulder confit on a sweet potato puree and sweet potato chips. Great value at $26 but would have been even better with a superior cut of lamb. The Chocolate and honeycomb Bombe Alaska with caramel sauce was excellent and capped off a great meal. Will return here.
