No porters so lugging suitcases up and down 4 flights of stairs is not fun. Turret suite has awesome views. Best in towncomfy bed, nice shower and big jacuzzi tub- however the minute you turn on the jets the bathroom gets flooded and there is no tilt for water runoff so vm of water accumulates on the floor and there goes the towel supply trying to mop up. After 5 no front desk on duty- they leave a cell number for emergencies, which we rang but no answer at all. Heavens forbid it’s a real emergency. Restaurant staff- sweet but clueless as to content of meals on offer or what was on the menu also very limited menu . No breakfast on offer at hotel. So not a fantastic stay but ok for two nights- fortunately great eateries within walking distance
Appalling service. I made a point of calling and booking a room with a view as a treat for my sisters visit from interstate. I was specifically told the room I booked had views over Swan Bay. When we arrived at 4.55pm reception was unmanned, the bartender gave us the key. We asked where to go and she waved her hand and said around the corner. We were given a room on the ground floor at the back of the hotel with a view of parked cars. The room had a wet, dirty towel hanging on the back of the door. I explained at the bar that I had booked a room with a view. Finally they located a manager, Alice to assist me. Well! I have never encountered such rude and unhelpful treatment. As well as talking over the top of me, she accused me of lying about my booking, and then said, that the room I had booked was occupied as the guests had extended their stay. . I asked why they hadn 't been told the room was booked and given a different room. She told me that I should understand how highly inappropriate that would be. (really? she then said the people in our room had been coming for 20 years and were valued customers. Implying we were not valued. She then said we could go somewhere else and have my money refunded. As two senior ladies who had travelled for 4 hours to arrive we opted to stay, I asked for a reduction but was told again to book elsewhere. Alice had a very overbearing and bullying manner better suited to debt collector than hospitality. In addition, despite being their busiest time of year as I was repeatedly told, the upstairs bar was closed, reception closed, no room service, no mini bar. Overall so disappointed that such a lovely building could be so mismanaged. ,
Roof top bar.. wow what a view. Barman was lovely. Drinks cold. Pretty much perfect Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Great view, Quiet
Very shabby hotel that needs a lot of money spent. One review said it looked like it had been furnished by the Salvos. Spot on. You've heard of the Hard Rock hotel? Well this is the Hard Rubbish hotel. A mish mash of cheap furniture in every room. Bathrooms look like they were done in the 80s and not touched since. This is all fine if done with a sense of kitch. I have stayed in grand Victorian era hotels in India that were also worse for wear, and it's a fun experience. But the Vue Grand is charging Windsor Melbourne prices. No breakfast. Someone please buy this place and return it to its former glory. The craftsmen who built this magnificent hotel would be rolling in their grave if they could see it now.
