Description
Athelstane House offers a charming and inviting atmosphere for guests to enjoy fine dining, but there have been some drawbacks for some patrons. While some have experienced disappointment with the portion sizes and service, others have consistently found the food and wine selection to be excellent. The restaurant has received praise for dishes such as the chargrilled eye fillet, roast duck, and calamari entree. The ambiance and attentive service have also been highlights for many visitors. While staying here had breakfast both mornings and it was quite nice. The bruschetta was probably the best option, different and tasty. The servings were generous and all the staff were lovely to deal with.
Great service with friendly waitresses. I had the French gnocchi with blue cheese, pear, spinach and almonds and it was delicious. I also had a couple of spoons of my friend's delicious sticky date pudding. Yum.
Fresh Oysters were definitely not fresh and they were served warm with dry lemon. They we 're completely inedible but we were still charged for the full dozen! I will definitely not be back and I will strongly recommend that people stay away to avoid major disappointment.
Just had dinner here this evening. Overall, the food was delicious. The highlight for me was the roast duck. Cooked really well and very tasty. The beef fillet was good, but not spectacular I was told. The scallop entree there was way too much chorizo crumb, so much so the scallop was very raw and bland. Service at Athelstane has room for improvement. Either they are not attentive or there needs to be more staff. Nobody checked in with us. We waited so long for the dessert menu, we gave up left.
Disappointed. Athelstane House has been a regular favorite of ours for breakfast for many years, however last Sunday we were extremely disappointed. Breakfast is advertised 8-11 daily, we arrived at 10.40am, seated ourselves on the verandah, hunted down the menu's, found a waitress to place our order and were told Kitchen is closed for breakfast, and this was all before 11.00am. Admittedly it was the Music festival weekend, and they could have been busier earlier however there was only one other group of people finishing off coffee on the verandah when we arrived. I just don't understand why advertise breakfast until 11.00am when they don't really want to serve you. Unfortunately we won't be returning
