Nestled in the neighborhood, this Turkish restaurant offers a delightful culinary experience marked by flavorful Mediterranean dishes and a welcoming atmosphere. While appetizers like calamari fritters set a promising tone, the main attraction—mixed grill platters—has garnered praise for its delicious kebabs. However, inconsistent quality has been noted, with some patrons expressing disappointment over bland flavors and undercooked items. Yet, the lively service and BYOB policy enhance the dining experience. With standout dishes like branzino and a focus on generous portions, many diners still consider it a local favorite, albeit with a need for improved consistency and attention to culinary craft.

What Sara Sheridan dislikes about Sofra:
This Turkish restaurant is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood. The food was delicious, and the staff were incredibly welcoming. We kicked off our meal with calamari fritters as an appetizer; they were good, though not exceptional. For the main course, we opted for the mixed grill platter, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the kebabs. There was a weekend special featuring lamb leg, but it wasn't quite to our likin... I’ve visited several Turkish restaurants in Sunnyside, but Sofra stands out for its exceptional flavor. We ordered the Sofra special grill, which was delicious and more than enough for two people. At the end, we were offered complimentary tea. The staff was courteous and attentive. Highly recommended—I’ll definitely be returning.

After many years, today was my final visit to Sofra. When it first opened, the food was fantastic and the reviews were glowing. Sadly, I now find myself agreeing with those who have criticized both the taste and the prices. A few years ago, they messed up my order, and when I called them out, they refused to admit their mistake and blamed me for ordering wrong. How could I have ordered lamb soup when I can’t stand it? Despite that, I kept coming back because the food was good. Lately, though, I’ve noticed a change in their attitude—probably due to negative reviews flooding in—and the food now tastes completely different. I suspect there’s a new chef, so I plan to wait a couple of years before returning, hoping they hire someone better. It’s simply too expensive for the quality now, and I hate wasting $30 on a meal. It’s really sad to see a once-great restaurant decline, driven by greed that results in cheaper ingredients and poor staff.

The staff appeared friendly, and the portion sizes were adequate, but the food was surprisingly bland, missing even a hint of salt. Perhaps it was because we ordered for pickup rather than dining in, but after ordering so much for my parents' anniversary, it was a major disappointment. We barely touched most of the meal.

I’m 30 years old, and I've never eaten anything as bad as this in my life. The pide was undercooked, and the cheese was so unpleasant that I couldn’t even bear to touch it. The dough was too thin for the pide. I rarely leave feedback on restaurants, but I have to say, I wouldn’t recommend this place—stay away!
