We discovered this restaurant through a Google search for Italian food near our hotel. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that it had been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. We ordered a special salad and margherita pizza, which were both delicious. The service was a bit slow on Thursday due to it being full, but we passed the time with Negroni Sbagliatos and enjoyed the tasty bread while waiting for our... View all feedback.

Ridiculously slow. Came here for vegan and non vegan food. Vegan food was good, non vegan dishes just ok. Service was NOTHING to brag about. I realize restaurants are short staffed but we didn’t get our entrees until 9pm. We were seated at 6:30. Not acceptable. Veal was over cooked and tough, I did eat it though bc I was very hungry and it was ridiculously late. Hopefully our experience was a fluke. View all feedback.

John’s of 12th Street A cozy and charming Italian restaurant serving red-sauce specialties in the East Village since 1908. Traditional old school classics and vegan versions. Food This is one of the few restaurants we have rated 5 stars. The food was absolutely delectable and we could not even tell we were eating vegan versions of these Italian classics. The portions were hefty—we split the Seitan alla Rosa and the Bruschetta. The Seitan alla Rosa was so flavorful and the bruschetta was one of the best we’ve ever had. The vegan tiramisu was so delicious it was hard to take a break while eating it. Service Prompt and friendly service with a smile. We were given the table of our choice and we were approached by the waiter right away. We never had to wait. We split a dish and they were nice enough to put it on two plates! Atmosphere Cute, cozy, and charming. There’s a front and back area. The lighting was dim and the ambiance was peaceful. Price On the pricier side but the portions are big and it’s definitely with every penny!
Went here as part of Italian food tour on a cold and wet January evening. Learned about great history of restaurant and that it was one of the five oldest restaurants in the city. Ate near Lucky Luciano’s regular table where he conducted his business. Restaurant has one of the first electric General Electric refrigerators in US and it still operates. Had wonderful meal of spaghetti and meatballs with homemade garlic bread. Ate near the 200 pound candles that were used to alert patrons durable prohibition. Come to this place for the food and the historic.
We went here for a family get together. The small and intimate venue gets filled up and boisterous for dinner, but provides a great atmosphere and really good food. The restaurant was featured on Drive-throughs, Diners, and Dives (which is weird since it's not really any of those) for its meatballs, among some of the other dishes. This is an Americanized Italian place, which really delivers. Excellent service and reasonably priced food in very generous portions. I ate the Tuscan Ragu with the homemade, which was a symphony of flavors and textures and almost too much food. The restaurant boasts vegetarian and vegan equivalents to most of the menu items. Overall a very good experience, would recommend for a solid and filling meal.
