Description

**Dining Experience at Fossil Fuels Cafe: A Mixed Bag**

Nestled within the Carnegie Museum of Art, Fossil Fuels Cafe presents a delightful yet inconsistent dining experience. Visitors appreciate the charming ambiance and attentive service, often highlighting excellent coffee and a few standout dishes like falafel salad and Parisian gnocchi. However, many express disappointment in the quality and portion sizes of certain items, deeming them overpriced and lacking freshness. While some patrons rave about their meals, others report bland flavors and greasy preparations. Despite these varying experiences, the cafe remains a convenient stop for museum-goers, making for a potentially enjoyable outing if approached with tempered expectations.

The Cafe Carnegie is a unique, small dining experience for visitors of the Carnegie History and/or Art Museum. A few notches above the typical cafes located inside these types of establishments. The food is provided by The Speckled Egg. I tried the turkey club and it was fresh and flavorful. Coffee was good too. The cafe has a cramped, limited self-seating area. The tables were dirty and I didn 't like that. The cafe also has a full service area that staff needs to seat you in -this includes the outdoor seating as well. This full service area is a bit of a flex. Seems to me like the museum wants to have the illusion of offering a fine dining experience to patrons where you sip on wines and cocktails before elegantly strolling the halls of exhibitions. The museum 's Great Gatsby ambitions are well intentioned but in reality it doesn 't really pan out. If you 're at the museum and need a quick bite this works though. It 's good enough.

2023 Update: Cafe was packed at lunch on a Friday, we needed to make a reservation! We did and they seated us later that day. Food was delicious. Service was attentive and professional. I would be able to take my kids here, but also meet adults for a nice lunch and drinks. The club sandwich was solid. The Bahn Mi was open faced, which was a surprise. Updated decor and menu experience. All very pleasant and cushy. I plan to return, and you should, too! 2015 Review: Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, but I really enjoy the menu at the museum cafe. They do a great job! The decor of the space is a bit dated but the food is great better than the expected freezer to deep fyer stuff I see in add on eateries (food places secondarily attached to a main event). I do wish they offered a full menu during their weekly evening hours. If they did, I would be much more inclined to bring my family to the museum for dinner and enjoy a nice evening afterwards roaming the galleries. The nearby Phipps Conservatory does this.

My parents chose to try this restaurant after visiting the museum, and I was pleasantly surprised by the range of options and the quality of the food for a museum café. I ordered an omelette, and it was quite flavorful and well-seasoned. My parents also enjoyed their meals. While it may not be the most economical choice, if you're in the area and seeking a satisfying lunch, I would definitely recommend it.

Convenient during a museum visit, hood service, pleasant atmosphere, but not great food (bland, dry, hot dishes like fries and hot sandwiches had gone cold).

It was quite busy on a Friday afternoon, and we waited 25 minutes for a table for three. The outdoor seating was lovely. I enjoyed a delicious cappuccino and a veggie panini. Our server was friendly, though she did mix up one of our entrees. She apologized and offered us a discount, which was appreciated.
