Description
Nestled in a charming setting, this popular restaurant offers a varied menu that appeals to many diners. While recent visits reveal a troubling inconsistency in service—ranging from friendly to neglectful—the food quality remains somewhat reliable, highlighted by standout dishes like duck bao buns. Despite some issues, such as delays in service and mixed experiences with the staff’s demeanor, many guests have enjoyed the ambiance and overall dining experience. With beautiful surroundings and an impressive selection of beverages, there’s still hope that this establishment can recapture its former glory and provide the exceptional experience that many once cherished.

Last night we went to this restaurant for dinner. It was not crowded when we arrived. The staff was friendly and courteous. The menu had a wide variety of options. Our order was promptly taken and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The dishes and drinks were served hot and beautifully presented.
We stopped by just for a drink, but I have to admit that this pub is absolutely gorgeous. Adorned with ivy and hanging baskets, it is visually stunning. The selection of beer and lager is excellent. Additionally, it was once Guinness World Record holder for the largest variety of gins, with over 600 different options.
We stayed at the lodge and made a last-minute reservation at the Gas House restaurant. They were able to accommodate us despite being very popular, offering a great selection of delicious gastropub dishes. The food was excellent, and the other dishes we saw looked tempting as well. Overall, a great dining experience.
So. it is great to know that fence gate inn is consistently terrible! on a Saturday in beautiful sunshine to find that the venue was empty (alarm bells should then be ugly) the bardame was asked for a weinlist and was...shortly strewn by hand to the boards over the ghosts with a “these are our wines”. politically advised me that I wanted to order champagne, which I told myself that she could not do and the person from the brasserie (which could fulfill our request) had gone into the lodge. I was asked what champagne I would like to order and advise, it was lp rose; the bardame said that she did not believe that she served that champagne and when making the weeping list I pointed out that it was laurent perrier rose in a bottle. I was then advised that she would see if she had any (there was a bottle in the champagne refrigerator I had checked when I would not order something they had not) to say that they had no store on. a blatant lie. the “unrested attitude” is again something we have used to this lack of lust and “Mutton as Lamb”. they have lost our money when we served for a bottle don perignon in the forest near fence with real customer service and professionalism. something we haven't received in the fence gate inn for long. you should be ashamed!
Very popular on an early Monday evening. Quite a good menu choice and some decent meals in the mix. Duck bao buns my own highlight whilst the beef bourguignon disappointed. Staff are inconsistent. One waitress was warm and friendly whilst some around her were cold...and rude. Overall it's a bit pricey and nothing special but seems to have some standing in the area.
