Cute spot, with a simple breakfast menu. My whole family and I were happy to find this place this morning. Nice large servings and very nice staff
Great menu and service but on a slow Sunday, the wait for food was too long. Love my Burger!
We visited Tom Sawyer Diner for lunch on a Sunday afternoon around 1:45, even though Google Maps indicated a busy crowd. Thankfully, we were seated quickly, and our friendly waitress attended to us. We had to ask for the separate breakfast menu. My husband chose a pastrami corned beef dish loaded with lean meat and accompanied by steamed vegetables instead of fries. I ordered the Reuben sandwich, requesting light on the Russian dressing, and the waitress kindly informed me it’s always served on the side. The sandwich was delicious, filled with sauerkraut, meat, and cheese. We were both satisfied and took half of our sandwiches home. Our friends ordered omelets, which they enjoyed, though one had requested dry toast but received it buttered instead—an inconvenience, but not too significant. Our total for the four of us was $58, including $6 for two large colas (with a 3% surcharge for card payments). The diner offers a relaxing atmosphere with nice booths and no loud background music, which we appreciated. We will definitely return when we’re back in the area.
If I could give Tom Sawyer Diner negative stars, I would. The food was not only awful but also ridiculously overpriced. After tasting our meals and finding them disgusting, the waitress never returned. After waiting 20 minutes, I had to get up and find her myself. By that point, I was done and asked for the check. She refused, insisting she’d bring it over. When she finally came back, I expressed how unhappy we were. She took our plates to speak with the manager—but still no check. Eventually, she returned with the bill and told us to pay at the front. When I did, the cashier took the bill without even asking how our experience was and just rang me up. I shared my disappointment, explaining we hardly ate and just wanted to go home and cook, but all she did was smile and say “have a good night.” How am I supposed to have a good night after this? I’d rather go hungry than ever return here. You can see from the picture just how little we managed to eat of the chicken parm wrap.
The food at Tom Sawyer Diner is good, though nothing extraordinary. The experience matches your expectations, and the staff is friendly. One downside is the extra 3% fee for card payments—prices listed on the menu are cash prices, so keep that in mind. It’s not a place you need to go out of your way for, but if you’re nearby and hungry, it’s a decent option. (Edit: I previously mentioned a 3.5% card fee, but the owner clarified it’s actually 3%, which is indicated on the menu.)
