The Whalesbone Elgin Street - Ottawa

Recently tried out Whalesbone with my family, and found the overall experience underwhelming. We ordered a wide variety of appetizers and mains, and throughout, there were more misses than hits. Two of the biggest disappointments were the oysters and the lobster spaghetti. A variety of other dishes had some positive features, but were more above average than really good. In terms of positives, a clam chowder was excellent, and fried calamari was good. The vibe at the back of the restaurant was also very fun, but the experience, and quality of our meals did not justify the premium pricing.

Great atmosphere, friendly service, great oysters and steak! we had oysters to begin (to taste the Bourbon shots), 8oz aged steak and lobster pasta. everything was fresh and delicious. good wine and cocktails. have their ice cream on Sunday for dessert that could have been the most creamy ice cream ever, while still in Canada would definitely recommend!

Amazing eating, wonderful service. out server angela was beyond fanominal! she was one of the best servers I've ever met. we will come back and ask for her in any case. thanks for a wonderful experience!

Oysters are always a favorite here. Casual atmosphere with friendly staff. The burger with truffle fries is so good and big enough to be shared! The scallops and pork belly and the mussels are absolute must try dishes. The lobster pasta dish is the reason for 4 stars; lobster was overdone and pasta was a little undercooked. This is just an opinion but the mussels could really use a side of rice to soak up the yummy broth but delicious nonetheless.

It’s always a good time when I come here. Food is tasty and they got a decent menu with various options. You won’t get disappointed with food here. Drinks list is grrrreeeaaat! The vibe is loud and busy with dim lights. You can wear either casual or dress up here. Oysters is a specialty in this place. I tried most of the appetizers and they were all tasty. Scallops with pork belly is a must! Bartenders are super friendly and loud which makes it a bit different and fun from other places. Staff generally are polite and professional. They value customer service and never let a customer down. It’s a great place for friends gatherings, celebrating occasions, hanging out with friends and dates. If you don’t know where to go in Ottawa, just go to the Whalesbone Elgin!
