The Red Apron - Ottawa

We had a takeout meal with several members of our extended family. Most of the food was more or less middle eastern; all of it was palatable without being memorable. The chowder-like soup we had was the best part of the meal.

Stopped in for lunch, as it was close to our Airbnb. The beef sandwich was good, the beet salad ok, and the pie very good. Unfortunately they don’t have any kid friendly sandwiches, and as everything was pre-made, no customization was possible. So our son...had pie for lunch. A good suggestion if they want to broaden their clientele from the, or not so, young and single, to families is to expand the menu options a bit. I did see a lot of young families in the area, but perhaps it is too pricy for them.

Delicious and local take home meals. The person portions are on the small side and often need a salad added to the meal to balance it out. Not an inexpensive option but usually worth the price. They also sell AMAZING frozen uncooked pies. Worth...trying out!

The Red Apron's gourmet dishes are great when you need a break from cooking. You can pick up fresh or frozen prepared dishes like pull pork with mac and cheese, tandoori chicken, or chickpea curry. Their pies are outstanding. They also do a terrific lunch--soup...and inventive sandwiches--which you can eat on site.

The Red Apron is probably one of the best if not the best food emporiums in Ottawa. Firstly, it offers an amazing selection of take out or delivery meals made from locally sourced suppliers. These menus are available Tuesday to Thursday of each week except...holidays. We really enjoyed our take our dinner of Canadian tourtière, baked beans and coke slaw. A gourmet dinner for two for Incredible! The shop also offers daily specials for lunch and dinner. There's a huge selection of frozen prepared meals including, soups, pastas and desserts. There are choices for vegetarians, vegans and those seeking gluten-free products. The owners and staff go out if their way to help with any of your choices. The service is outstanding. The only slight drawback is parking. It's limited out front on a busy street. Despite this, it's certainly worth a visit. It's almost guaranteed that you will come away with some delightful dish.
