Burrito Shack - Ottawa

Can a little Ottawa spot compete with the big money of the chains for a fast food version of Mexican? The answer is yes. Sure, they were a bit chintzy on the quac (so you charged me extra for it, so give it to me!), but otherwise it was way better than other fast food Mexican in the city. When I need Mexican in a hurry, I'll be back.

I called Burrito Shack last night at 6pm to place a 4-person order for pick up. I got their voice mail 3 times in a row. On the fourth attempt, one of their staff answered the phone and said "can you call back in 30 mins, we're busy". I told him "but I want to place my order now so I can pick it up in 30 mins". His response was "but we're too busy, call back later". No apologies and didn't care that he was asking ME, the customer, to wait. I will never order from them again and I'll make it my life's work to tell everyone I know that they have no idea how to run a business. In this day and age, there is no excuse for treating a customer like that. Well, ex-customer I should say....

Happy with this place! I have been wanting to stop at this corner shop for lunch for some time now. Glad I did. Burrito was awesome. Fresh delicious ingredients are added with care and in good proportion. Too often burrito places just jam as much in as they can and thing explodes as soon as you try to eat it. Guys behind the counter seemed to care about the sandwich they are making for you. I'll go again when I am in the neighbourhood.

They claim to be fresh as their motto, but it was disgusting. I'm never going again, their guacamole was disgusting and it looked like their food had been out for a while.

I decided to try this again, after having a pretty bad burrito a few months ago. This time was even worse. I had the burrito platter, but with quinoa. So the take out box was a layer of bitter weird tasting quinoa, browning lettuce, black beans, cold shredded cheese, cilantro which was mostly stems ( noticed this last time, gross), and the worst tasting salsa ever. Like something was off. I went for the regular salsa instead of the mango salsa like last time which consisted of rock hard mangos. The other person had the taco salad... A taco shell with browning iceberg lettuce, salsa and cilantro stems. For 10$. My daughter had a mini soft shell taco with beans and rice and cheese. Hard to screw that up.In all ( with tip for some reason even if it was take out) was 35$. For one of the worst meals ever.Not to mention the service. The 2 girls could smile a little.Will NOT be going back. Worth the travel to Pirho grill in Barrhaven for way better quality and great service.
