Roseanna's Cafe - Oceanside
Roseanna's Cafe
Description
Perched in a century-old building on Oceanside’s waterfront, this cozy, nostalgia-tinged cafe delivers fresh, seafood-forward comfort food and memorable desserts with impressive ocean views. Halibut dishes, sandwiches and coffee drinks earn regular praise, though clam chowder and some seasonal plates divide opinion. Service is friendly but can be inconsistent, and occasional pricing/gratuity issues have been reported. Not fine dining—expect diner-style portions, crinkle-cut chips and casual beachside charm—ideal for families, tourists and anyone after a scenic, relaxed meal.

Lunch with an ocean view and friendly service, what more could you ask for. The the fried oyster sandwich paired with the clam chowder was exactly what I was looking for on an overcast afternoon.
The woman making coffees was fantastic but it went downhill fast after that. I believe our server was quite new so we cut him a break but the service was simply awful from him. He took our order, he dropped our food, and we never saw him again until we paid. It was wonderful from the lady up front though, so three out of five stars. The clam chowder was inedible. Lacking flavor outside of the mountain of Dill put in it. Can't say I ever had clam chowder with that much Dill or any Dill for that matter. But wow was it bad. We sent it back. The snug harbor was covered with some of the some Dill aioli which overpowered the dish. The potatoes were soft and underwhelming. We took a shot and it just simply missed the mark. Google reviews don't tell the whole story sometimes. Maybe breakfast is a lot better than lunch. The view outside is really nice though so it wasn't a total loss. Two people in our party said the burgers were acceptable. Hopefully this will help you avoid our same mistake. I have to give them credit for the good coffee drinks though.
It's the best restaurant in Oceanside, but mediocre anywhere else. It's the kind of place you go to for nostalgia, it's been consistently the same for 20 years food and atmosphere) with great beach views. The salad is... a salad. The sandwiches are served with potato chips you'd find at the bottom of the bag. The drinks are made with cheap alcohol, but not the worst I've had. This is no fine dining. It reminds me of cafeteria/diner food. Their desserts are good, though a little expensive $12.50). The servers are always friendly. It's not worth going out of your way for, but if you go enjoy the view.
