Menu

This restaurant offers a mixed dining experience, with some patrons praising its cleanliness, friendly staff, and delicious meals. Many enjoyed the generous portion sizes and good value, particularly after outdoor activities. However, others noted a decline in quality with lukewarm food, unkempt staff, and insufficient menu options due to ongoing kitchen issues. Service inconsistency and a lack of attention to cleanliness detracted from the experience for some visitors. Overall, while the atmosphere is pleasant and some staff shine, the restaurant seems to struggle with maintaining its standards amid operational challenges.

Visited on 01/09/2023, this restaurant exceeded our expectations. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and appreciated the excellent cooking and generous portion sizes. The value was great, especially with drinks included. The cleanliness of the toilets was also noted. Overall, this experience was far superior to previous visits to other Wetherspoons locations. What fionat991 dislikes about The Water Gate:
Pop in here quite frequently for a meal, can guarantee you know what you 're getting at a spoons but don 't expect luke warm food served at break neck speed WHY ???I 'm more then happy to wait and it 's slightly annoying when one male member of staff appears to have to do everything at a trot as he shot passed our table saying everything OK guys and jogged on, why ask you didn 't even stop for our reply and chances... Came in here after a long walk along the Tarka trail. Food and service were excellent . Friendly staff and got the 2-5pm deal fish and chips for 2 plus a drink just over £17 .. what’s not to like ???
For the price its a no brainer. Lovely cuppa coffee to go with the Breakfast. My regular weekly trip.
After cycling the Tarka Trail from Meeth, this stop off was much need for a couple of refreshing pints to cool down. Seemed to be a lack of charging points, like most Wetherspoons have, but found a table near the bar and all was good. Was quite busy when I arrived and I heard a waitress say there was a 30 minute wait for food.
The atmosphere at the restaurant was really lovely! The staff seemed very busy at one point, but for a Wetherspoons, the food was served piping hot and the burger was probably the best I've ever had from there. The bun was hot and buttery, and everything seemed fresh. This was a rare experience at a Wetherspoons, even the vegetables in the burger were crisp! Much better than the nearby restaurant Panniers.
Started coming here for a spot to use my laptop for work and some breakfast honestly didn’t expect much from experiences from other spoons in the area… but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was good quality and hot! Will definitely be making this a regular spot. I will give a shout out to the young lady (think she’s a manager) that’s on most weekday mornings and the tall gent. They are always smiling and it’s good to see staff having a laugh and working with a smile at that time of morning. Clearly enjoy their jobs!
