Finally a good Chinese restaurant in newtown as expat of hk is my favorite Chinese restaurant in sydney the golden century, but it is from my price class. I heard a rumor that the chief of gc cooks in old streets newtown. I went to the lunch special today and was not disappointed. I had hawn chow my and my partner had bark meat and black bean, both delicious and authentic. I recommend this place, ps service was fast... View all feedback.
What Ilene Quitzon doesn't like about Old Streets:
Stopped by for a lunch with a friends as they have a $1 Dumpling special (3 serves per portion) with any purchase. I had a Mixed Entree platter of prawn toast, prawn cutlet, pork dimsim and veg spring roll – nice for $6.50. For mains I couldn't decide and had both the Sweet Sour Pork and Chicken Satay. Thee meat ratio is rationed when it comes to the $10-$12 lunch special for these mains but its ok in terms of flavou... View all feedback.
Good balance between quantity and size and taste. there are cable water, toilets and sockets to load phones. I would come back for Chinese food.
Yes king street has come and go many restaurants, and when it comes to certain kitchen, there are many stalwarts that have been long, long time, and are still very popular (hello, happy chef sometimes it is nice to try something new, what I did at this place. I'm sorry for owners of a new place in newtown, as the competition is fierce. and if their place is not hipster enough, it could fight but the service here was nice, and eating was more than delicious, and also to reasonable praise. I'd like to eat here again. it is good to do now and again something else, of course it is hard for somewhere...read more

Yes, King Street has many restaurants come and go, and when it comes to certain cuisines, there's many stalwarts that have been there for a long, LONG time, and are still much loved (Hello, Happy Chef!) Sometimes it's nice to try something new / different, which is exactly what I did at this place. I feel sorry for owners of a new place in Newtown, as the competition is FIERCE. And if your place isn't "hipster" enough, it might struggle. But the service here was lovely, and the food was more than delicious, and at reasonable prices as well. I'd be quite happy to dine here again. It IS good to do something different now and again. Of course, it's hard for somewhere to really stand out from the crowd when it's such a common cuisine such as Chinese / Asian, but this place is very clean, well lit, nicely appointed, and had good food. Try it!
Finally a good Chinese Restaurant in Newtown! As an expat from HK, my favourite Chinese Restaurant in Sydney is The Golden Century, but it's way out of my price range. I heard a rumour that the chef from GC is cooking at Old Streets Newtown. I went there today for a lunch special and was not disappointed. I had chicken chow mein and my partner had beef and black bean, both delicious and authentic. I highly recommend this place, ps service was fast and staff were very polite.
