The General Store - Nelson
The General Store
Description
At the General Store Restaurant, experiences vary widely. While some diners rave about exceptional dishes like the Bravos burger and delightful breakfast options, others report significant issues, including overpriced, mediocre meals and poor service. Reports of incorrect orders, cold food, and unprofessional staff interactions underscore a troubling trend. The charming ambiance, however, paired with the historical significance of the building, captures the attention of many guests. While some appreciate the friendly atmosphere and dedicated service, the inconsistency leaves others unwilling to return. Overall, this restaurant presents a dichotomy of exceptional moments overshadowed by disappointing experiences.

Over the years, we've visited the General Store Restaurant at the Hume Hotel numerous times. It's clean, the staff is exceptionally friendly, and the food is fantastic—what more could you ask for? I really appreciate the historical significance of the building and how well it has been preserved. The highlight of my meal was definitely the crème brûlée. Be sure to stop by and experience it for yourself!
I visited this restaurant for lunch and we had a fantastic experience! We ordered the daily special and the Reuben sandwich, both of which were incredibly tasty. To cap off our meal, we tried the lemon meringue pie, and it was absolutely delicious! The service was prompt and friendly, and we also appreciated the charming decor inside. Don't forget to check out the history of the building printed on the back of the menu. Thank you, Daira!
Nice family restaurant to bring the kids. Everyone enjoyed their food grilled cheese and fries for one kid, spaghetti for another. I tried a greek themed skillet for brunch the sourdough bread on the side was a highlight. I haven't had a similar diah anywhere and would recommend it. Others in the group were happy with the Silver King Clubhouse and Pacific eggs benny (with crab). Fries were crispy. While we waited, there was interesting history to read about for the adults and colouring for the kids. Love the renos and how they have heritage themed items everywhere.
I had the breakfast special, which consisted of fried small potatoes served with an egg, bacon, cheese, and a tomato panini on multi-grain bread. It was excellent—beautifully presented. Our server...
