Great food with a menu that isn't overwhelming and perfect mixed drinks. The Cadillac margarita with illegal mezcal is one of the best drinks I've ever had.
Quite good but not like the Mexican food I grew up on in Los Angeles, but good. The fresh home-made tortillas were amazing. I got the Pollo Blue Dalia, cooked just right, juicy and flavorful. There was a side of picked vegetables and beans. I made tacos with the chicken, salsa and the tortillas. The churros for dessert was really good too. Other than that, nothing reminded me of Mexican food, but then again I hadn't eaten in Mexico in many parts. Just in Baja. I would give three stars on the food alone, but the Mezcal and Tequila selection was amazing. The vibe is cool, a bit modern, with some earthy twists, but I wanted to see more wood and hear Mexican music, maybe Mariachis. If you've even spent time in southern California (or Baja) you'd know exactly what I mean. It didn't feel Mexican really. The menu is simple, which is pretty cool. Complexity gets in the way. Didn't have any apps, but they sounded good. I have heard that they make the guacamole in front of you, I didn't see that yet, but that's cool. So many Mexican restaurants in California do that. Often that's a good sign. Our server was really nice and attentive. Overall, good food, cool place with friends. Doesn't feel or taste Mexican, (except for home-made tortillas) of course everything costs 20% more than it should, because Massachusetts, but that's a given. Personally, my test for great Mexican food is great salsa, and knowing how to properly make Mexican rice and beans, lard (Manteca) or some fat should be in there too. If you can't make that, then it's downhill from there. But then again, the clientel here is very different. The closer you get to authenicity you may turn off folks. Using lard, spicy ingredients and offal might be a lot. I am used to fiery flavors, menudo, tripe, tacos de lengua, brain/headmeat, pork feet, cactus and salt. I would come back. This is it's first store. The foods better than the food court and most chains in the area.
We recently had one of the best dining experiences in quite some time, and it was such a delightful surprise! Don’t let the fact that this restaurant is located within Wegman’s deter you. Almost everything on the menu, including the Mexican-style ice cream, is made from scratch! The weekend brunch menu is also amazing. You won’t be disappointed... Plus, you can make reservations on OpenTable.
Next, I ordered quesadillas but realized I made a mistake; I wanted them with chicken. They kindly remade the entire order for me, which was incredible. Meg was outstanding and truly went above and beyond, along with Jason. My server, Mike, was also great. Would I return? Yes, but I’d bring friends next time!
