Wow! Samarkand Restaurant was great!!! We visited because we wanted a good restaurant near the movie theater, so we could have dinner and a show. This was the perfect place to stop! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful! Wonderful decor, beautiful music. We ordered a couple things off their appetizer menu mantu with meat, and Chebureki. We shared an entree chalagash.Everything was so good! We had a debate over which appetizer we enjoyed better and both had a different answer. This was thefirst time I've had lamb that I really enjoyed. It was perfectly seasoned and so flavorful. Our server was very attentive andfriendly. We had a lovely time, and we will be back with family!
YUM! My headband and i needed to be in the area for the evening, and were looking for some non American fare after a summer in northern MN. We 'd never been to an Uzbek restaurant and thought it would be a tasty adventure. It was! We started with mantu(beef dumplings) and samsa (a pastry like bun with beef inside), followed by borscht soup (beets, beef, onions, carrots, potato, dill). For entrees we chose a lamb kebab and Plov Samarkand (a traditional dish of beef, carrots, rice, chickpeas). And for dessert, we had a glass of a sweet but light Georgian wine, Kindzmarauli. Our server, Victoria, was sweet and attentive andalso Ukrainian, and grateful to have escaped the war and be in the US. We also chatted with Aziz, who 's from Samarkand,Uzbekistan, and whose family runs the restaurant; he was wonderful and happy to share insights from his home town. Deliciousfood Prepared with love and pride Served by interesting, charming people In a place that gave a sense of what Samarkand mightbe like And cost around $100 for so much food we couldn 't finish it and plenty of wine
We went to this restaurant a couple of weeks ago to celebrate our friends birthday and really enjoyed the food and entertainment. So we decided to visit it as a family at a lunch time. It was Saturday and very nice and quiet. Everything wasexceptional- service, food, presentation. The menu is pretty lengthy and intricate. Good photos and description. We have orderedlagman (soup/stew), lula kebab (similar to meat balls) and Jiz-Biz(deep fried lamb with fried potatoes). They also broughtfreshly baked and still warm bread that was absolutely awesome! We were very impressed and planning going there often- so manythings to try!
We arrived just before the kitchen was getting ready to close and we felt horrible about it, but they insisted we stay and they accommodated us. We ordered several dumplings, soup made of cow head, cow feet, and stomach, and two different lamb dishes.Everything was delicious. I enjoyed the raw onions they provided with the meats; which is the perfect accompaniment and notoverpowering at all. This is a wonderful restaurant. Great food and great service. The eclectic patterns around the restaurantare lovely.
