We were lost, trying to find a decent cake store (which we never actually did. someone please come to mérida and open a decent French bakery with beautiful terr... read more We were lost, trying to find a decent cake store (which we never actually did. someone please come to mérida and open a decent French bakery with beautiful terrace series! but just as we gave up on the cake search, I smell this place. I smelled before I saw it. rich coffee odours flow into the planter. the owner is enchanting. he was so knowledgeable about coffee and impressed that two brides could speak something Spanish! we had two thick and excellent espressos that I had best since Mexico City and then bought a kilo of his home mix coffee, ground, for 300 pesos. he threw in a 200g pack with a darker mix for nothing and congratulated us on our language skills. the place is teeny tiny, but for the smell it would be easy to miss. it is more a braterei than a caffe there is a table and some chairs, but it is more convenient to stand or take away. but if they love their coffee, they are certainly at the right place. highly recommended and a beautiful accidental discovery.

We love coffee, and since having kids we depend on it more than we should. Our vacation rental manager supplied us with a small bag of Cafico coffee when we arrived, which we went through in about a day, which meant...we had to get more. Cafico is a small place you might walk right by it if you're not looking. Follow your nose to the glorious scent of fresh roasting coffee. The owner, Senor Navarro, is delightful, charming and very helpful if you're navigating an unfamiliar language AND the metric system all at once. I was there for coffee by the pound, and didn't get a cup of coffee. For about 150 pesos you can get half a kilo of coffee in your choice of six roasts. The mezclas (mixed) is rich and robust without being muddy or overly strong. It's not fake and overdone like so many US coffees. Some of the best coffee we've ever had. Ever. Dreaming of a day when Sr. Navarro exports! Please?
