What Leonie b doesn't like about Sori:
The food was nice, fresh and was quickly made and delivered. Whether it was because it was a delivery order not pick up by the customer the size of the serve was very disappointing, I had the salmon bowl and really for $20.00 when you can get these poke bowls everywhere quite reasonably priced disappointing. It unfortunately seems to be a thing with many restaurants when you order Uber Eats you're paying top dollar and getting tiny serves, because you're not there to complain in person maybe???
We have been eating here for years. And it’s consistently excellent. The menu has lots to choose from, is vegetarian friendly too. The staff are super friendly and the interior is cosy. A wonderful restaurant we are fortunate to live near! Enjoy
Our family and friends continue to love going to Sori! Several reasons. The food is always great, and Julie and Jess who run the cafe couldn't be more accommodating. I particularly like the entree prawns, Japanese pancake and beef bibanbab. Can hardly ever go past those! And we can BYO! Rare nowdays.
It always saddens me to write a poor review for a place after receiving a couple of positive recommendations from colleagues who live in the area. We were in the area and had only 50 minutes to eat before we would need to get to an engagement in the area. When being seated we stressed that we needed to be quick, and received no indication to suggest there 'd be a problem. Somewhere between 15 and 20 minutes later having been ignored four times, and having seen the waitress serve another table who arrived after us we still hadn 't placed our order. (Lesson learned... we should have taken the hint and not given four chances) We were keen to eat something still and food appeared to be coming out of the kitchen quickly enough. So we enquired what we could get quickly. We then started being verbally attacked as the waitress turned down anything we tried to order as not being available if we needed it quickly. It was apparent it wasn 't going to work and decided to try our luck somewhere else along the street or on the way to our next engagement. We then continued to be verbally attacked on the way out. I now have no desire to return, and will be telling my colleagues of this poor service experience as well. For completeness of this review and our dining experience I vividly recall one of the 'suggestions ' that was yelled at us as we were leaving was to go to McDonalds. We should thank the waitress for this suggestion our McDonalds meal was to the usual standard, the staff were friendly and welcoming, and even checked if we wanted to wait one minute for fresh fries to be ready. Not recommended (although McDonalds down the road is good).
I was just driving past this strips of shop in front of Kensington station and as I was coming towards the end of the row of shops. I was amused by this simple shop front rest called SORI Cafe, I was telling myself, the owner must be some humorous person. I was greeted by a very humble Korean lady who sat me on the bench table at the window. I wasn't very hungry, so I ordered myself a Okonomiyaki with seafood and a beer. I had tried Okonomiyaki in most restaurant, nothing have ever satisfied me since the Daimaru Japanese foodcourt at Melb central. SORI only opens 5.00-9.30pm nightly except sunday, the restaurant is small and cosy, when I was there on a Tuesday night around 7.00pm. SORI cafe was full and I have to shared table with another couple. Advised to book and Highly recommend to try for yourself.
