Feedback
This review focuses on the various menu options and the crowd levels during the week. We are regular customers here and always have a great experience. The food is consistently high quality, with a good mix of light and heavy dishes served hot and promptly. The fried haloumi appetizer is a standout. The service is attentive but not overbearing, and there are plenty of seating choices available. The restaurant may be a bit tricky to find for those unfamiliar with the area, but this seems to help keep the crowds down, especially when the university is not in session. Weekdays tend to be busy with university students, so we prefer to visit on the weekends.
This review relates to weekends only - different menu and crowd factor during the week.We are regulars here and find it excellent. There is a range of light and heavy meals, the food comes out hot and together, the fried halumi is a nice treat, the service is attentive without being intrusive, and there are a range of seating options. It would be hard to find if you didn't know where it was but that seems to keep the crowds down, particularly when the uni is not in session, which is probably the best time to go. During week days full of uni students so go there on the weekend.
Average coffee shopI only bother going if I need a quick boost between classesPrices are higher than I'd like.
Reading Room Cafe is one of my favorite brunch spots in the West. Tucked away in Building P of Victoria University, it has an unexpected location, which I actually adore! It feels like a little hideaway where you can bring a book and escape the hustle and bustle of trendy weekend brunch locations like Yarraville and Seddon.
