It's a treat to go somewhere where the food is better than you can cook at home; Mardos tonight was a treat. Great food, fab atmosphere, all in all a wonderful evening. View all feedback.
What Diane Schmitt doesn't like about Mardo's:
A special birthday (60th) for an old friend lured us out on a very brisk Saturday night to this Port Melbourne restaurant, to join a dozen or so family and friends of the Birthday Girl . Not many diners and lots of staff SHOULD have meant prompt service, but we had quite a wait to be fed. The food was nothing to write home about and quite pricey (we guess they have to pay all those staff somehow), but the company was... View all feedback.
This is an excellent restaurant to go to with friends. Great Music on a Sunday afternoon. The Tapas were simply the best we have had and wines superb. No Byo. Try it, you won't be disappointed.y
We had attended Mardo's to celebrate a friend's birthday. We started with mixed drinks. The owner Nick recommended we start with mixed platters to share. These arrived promptly with Sashimi, Cajun drumettes, fried zucchini flowers, salt and pepper calamari and beef satay skewers. These were eaten and enjoyed by all. Individual Main Courses were chosen. Mushroom Risotto with Portobello, Shitake and Porcini mushrooms, Pasta Marinara, Salmon and mine a crumbed pan fried Sardines which were appropriately seasoned and tasty. Side of Oven Fried Potatoes were served with Asian Greens Salad. We selected Red and White wine to accompany the meals All reported they enjoyed immensely their dishes. I found the oven Potatoes a bit hard and undercooked however the salad innovative and delicious. We all decided to forgo dessert as we were going onto another engagement and were pretty full. We all finished with coffees and teas and rolled out the door pretty satisfied. Thank you Nick for a delightful meal and your convivial service. Russlyn Garotti
An exceptional restaurant both in food quality and service. The atmosphere is is awesome and all you need I'd to relax and let the experts provide world class quality food
A group of us visited Mardos recently. A very unpleasant experience. The food we ordered was very salty, unappetising and in the case or the arancini balls still frozen in the middle. As she cleared the table, the waitress enquired after our meals and we provided comments to this effect. She returned and asked if it was ok for the chef to speak with us to which we agreed. Well, the barrage of abuse we received from the chef was astounding. He yelled at us that he had removed the food cost from our bill, and why were we still there. We have every intention of paying the bill in the first instance. I am very glad we didn't. He claimed the food was fantastic and there was nothing wrong with it at all. Well, must disagree on behalf of the group of us who all experienced this "meal". Certainly never going back. As a local it is unfortunate to see the obvious demise of a restaurant that used to be quite good.
We dined at Mardo's last Friday night. The service was excellent, attentive without being obtrusive. We were impressed with the wine list which featured a wide range of varietals which were reasonably priced. We enjoyed 5 tappas dishes. The tuna sashimi was excellent, although it was more nagiri than sashimi as it had been ever so slightly seared. We enjoy tappas and have eaten at most of the Spanish restaurants in Melbourne and this is right up there.
