What Eudora Schumm dislikes about Joo Mak:
went there in a group of four and we decided to share a number of dishes. No dish was really good with one being left after two of us had partially sampled it, ( to greasy and too much batter). Staff were pleasant and attentive but could not speak well in English so it was difficult to communicate about anything. Also be advised to read the small sign on the door when entering. It reads Cash Only, but fortunately the... View all feedback.
A staff who was poor service and worse attitude from Joomak restaurant in Melbourne CBD Swanston Street. He called Alex as the restaurant manager. We went on holiday to Melbourne and we used this restaurant because a friend said it was good. We went to joomak last day midnight around 1:00am. When we were restaurant. There weren’t any staff to welcome us, but we saw there had three staff at least were nothing to do in front of bar desk. After that, one of the staff told us that we had to waited for 15 minutes. Then, we said yes sure, because we didn’t have to book the table before. The biggest problem was that 15 minutes left when we spoke to manager Alex that were there had any tables available? He spoke to us that didn’t have any tables were available, but we have found out that the restaurant had 4-5tables available, we were feeling incredible. We asked him why there had any tables available but didn’t give us. He said that someone has already booked, at that time, we haven’t seen any people line up in restaurant that was 1:00am, actually it wasn’t peak time. He was very insisted to told us that didn’t have any tables were available, and he said that he didn’t know what time table were available. His attitude was very arrogant. We were irritated too much from his attitude. Finally, we decided to leave. I’m very unhappy and disappointed with any of this. I think I won’t to go Joomak next time.
Went there with friends on Friday midnight, luckily we had booking, otherwise would have to queue. Food and drinks remind me of Korea, good service and atmosphere! Will definitely recommend!
If the plan is to keep this restaurant hidden, they are succeeding, since there was no visible sign outside. Had a feeling that one is going into an underground cave, whilst descending the stairs into the basement. Booked a booth and the ethnic menu was varied and appetizing. Seating was a bit tight for a group of 8. Waitstaff were attentive and we were told that our table had been booked in advance so we knew how much time to spend eating. Good idea to have a bell at the table to summon staff because the place became very noisy with clients conversation and loud piped music. Was not too excited by the overall experience.
This charming little Korean restaurant stays open late, making it a perfect spot for weekend gatherings with friends. Be sure to try their seafood hotpot—it comes with a whole tender squid that's absolutely delicious! They also serve refreshing makgeolli (Korean rice wine), which is lightly sweet and low in alcohol—perfect for easy drinking. Joomak is a hidden Korean restaurant that you definitely need to book in advance. It’s located underground and quite small, so it’s a bit tricky to find. I actually went there three times. The first two times I didn’t have a booking, and they said the wait would be long, so I couldn’t get in. This time, we were lucky to get a table because we booked ahead. We ordered a few dishes and they were delicious — but honestly, not quite as amazing as I expected, especially considering how hard it is to get in. Still, it’s worth trying if you plan ahead Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $20–40 Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5
