What User doesn't like about Ivanhoe Tavern:
The steak was really nice and we enjoyed the sauces, salads and mash/chips. Unfortunately after being given one glass of tap water we were not offered a refill. It would have been nicer to have the same waitress take care of our table rather than it changing as perhaps that would have meant closer attention to detail. It was a busy Friday night when we dined. View all feedback.
We celebrated our 45th anniversary with dinner at this restaurant. The staff were friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was cozy and clean, with the option of outdoor seating, although it can be noisy due to the location on a main road. The meals we ordered, including Rib eye with bone and Beef Reef with scotch Fillet chips, were cooked to perfection and delicious. I would recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a great steak dining experience.
I went with friends for a birthday meal at this restaurant. The staff were not informed about the occasion, but we were able to find parking on a Friday night. The Ivanhoe library next door was busy but had available parking. We received a warm welcome at the door and were offered drinks right away. The menu was promptly explained to us and we placed our orders without any issues. We were only offered still or sparkling water, even though we requested tap water. The menu was limited, but had options for those who do not eat steak. Most of us ordered variations of steak, as that seemed to be the specialty. You could choose between a 2 or 3 course meal, with mains only not being available. The entrees and desserts were good, but a bit small. The restaurant is not cheap, but the quality of the meat was worth the price. The wine list mainly focused on reds and had a decent selection. The restaurant had good condiment choices, provided both cloth and paper napkins, had excellent service, and served high-quality steak. However, the menu explanations were rushed, water and sides were charged for separately, the tables were close together, and the ambiance was lacking. Despite these drawbacks, there was no rush for us to leave, so we were able to enjoy our meal at our own pace. Overall, the focus here is on the quality of the meat, rather than the ambiance.
On seeing a Steakhouse in Melbourne, I had to give it a try. I knew something was up when our hot sauces for our steak were delivered separately to our table less than 10 minutes after we ordered our steaks. Our steaks followed shortly after. I expected at least a half hour wait for my well done eye fillet steak so was immediately concerned. It had been cut in half against the grain to cook it quicker. I was disappointed. My partner had ordered a medium steak which was almost rare. The meat I am sure is first rate and looks that way in the display. I would not return based on my experience. My steak was a little tough and hard to chew. Other than the STEAKS, everything else was excellent, there are two sittings, 6 and 8pm. Employees were lovely and very attentive. Sides were great. Special mention for the dessert crepes, wow, wanted more straight after I finished. As it is a steakhouse which failed us on the steaks, I was disappointed. It cost us over $200 for the meal which was way over the top. The same food in a restaurant would have been about $120. Mop was brought out to clean while there were still 3-4 tables eating.
Invited by friends who's son had been there and said it was good. From the moment we walked in the door it was like you were a regular, owner chef came out and spoke, and did so throat the night. Small place nothing fancy. Menu was choice of 2 or 3 courses but you had a choice of 4 entrees a nd some deserts and then depending on which steak you chose the price was based on that. We had several different dishes ,all were excellent including the salads. Wine list was small, well priced (comparatively cheap compared to even pubs these days) very well chosen. Also some lovely red wine glasses to drink from. BYO $16 a bottle which i am happy to pay to be able to bring a decent bottle out of my cellar. Highly recommend, definately be back when i want a steak. Bonus oarking no problem in area.
We had an amazing experience at this restaurant, enjoying a delicious meat feast. Emilio provided us with excellent service, cooking our steaks perfectly. The welcoming atmosphere and fantastic food made for a lovely evening. The fresh salads that accompanied our steaks were also delicious. Overall, it was a wonderful night to remember. Thank you.
