Was Anonym at Fat Oma a mag?
Been here twice and love the food it's genuine Indonesian but the restaurant space is bare and basic and not kept clean - if they could fix this we would be there every week - a painting or two on the walls would be good it demonstrates a lack of care - sad frankly View all feedback.
What Anonym dislikes about Fat Oma:
Tried the soto mie. Being and Indonesian, I found the taste was so so. But I haven't tried their other foodstuff.Another minus point is that there's only a set of condiments and a box of tissue to share with all the others. I think it would be nice to have it on every table. View all feedback.
I was craving some Indonesian food and decided to give this restaurant a try. The ribs and beef in green chili sauce were delicious and full of flavor. They also served martabak, which is a thicker Indonesian pancake. I'm not sure if they made it themselves or if someone else did, but it wasn't as impressive as the ribs and beef. The martabak was too salty and the texture was too soft, not chewy enough. Overall, it's a good place to try Indonesian food. I also heard that their chicken noodles are good.
I ordered my favorite dish at Fat Oma: chicken satay. The chicken skewers with delicious peanut and sweet soy sauce left a great taste on my tongue. I also tried mie ayam, baso malang, nasi goreng, roti bakar, nasi oma, and sop buntut, and all of it was good. As an Indonesian, I can say the food tastes quite authentic. Additionally, the atmosphere of the place is perfect for catching up with friends. I will definitely come back.
The food was amazing! I ordered empal cabe ijo and my husband ordered iga balado – both dishes were super yummy. The service was nice and the restaurant is conveniently located in the heart of the CBD. I will definitely be returning soon.
Oma knows it best apparently. If you love Indonesian food in a chill venue with friendly service and at great prices, this is for you. A small but very hearty menu impresses with more than decent servings and great flavours. It felt like going on a journey to Indonesia without even leaving the heart of Melbourne's CBD. Highly recommend the Rendang, which packs a punch of spices and is just falling apart. Definitely coming back more regularly. Seb
Not a bad place to get Indonesian food in the city. I'm a massive fan of Soto Mie so I was glad to see that on the menu. Sure, it doesn't taste like the ones I've had in Jakarta and the soup was lacking in the punchy flavour department but, it was still quite decent. The mie ayam wasn't too bad either.
