I loved the creative and thoughtful menu and the professional service. It felt like an 'intelligent ' restaurant. So the noise level jarred. It 's hard work trying to have an easy intelligent conversation if you have to speak loudly to make yourself heard. View all feedback.
What Maria Evans doesn't like about Etta:
I was disappointed with my visit to Etta. Food was average and too many flavours and overpowering. I was so looking forward to it and went for dinner to celebrate my friends birthday. Service was good and all but food was not as much. View all feedback.
My fiancée and I went to Etta on a whim with no booking and boy were we impressed. We sat in the front bar which was quiet and cozy despite being right next to the door. We went with the $60 set menu and it was wonderful. Beautiful seafood dish of calamari and mussels to start and pickled vegetables. Then came the broccoli and pumpkin dishes. Now I'm a meat lover and I normally don't go in for vege dishes but holy moly these two dishes are to die for. Beautiful lamb and roasted potatoes followed and a simply delicious chocolate mousse with tangerine sorbet finished an outstanding set of dishes which were a steal at $60 per head. The wine list was interesting and reasonably priced and most importantly of all the staff were professional, friendly and clearly happy to be working there (I spent 15 years in hospitality so I know it when I see it). This restaurant is well worth a visit, based on our experience you won't be disappointed. Just make sure you have the broccoli and the pumpkin.
This was our second visit to Etta - the first was outstanding - and this was even better. The food is just delicious - inventive, sophisticated and moorish. I'm quite a carnivore - but would consider becoming a vegetarian if I was able to eat Etta's carrots with halloumi or mushroom tortellini all the time. We politely fought over the last carrot - so good. The lamb was perfectly cooked, the whiting fresh and tasty but the hero was the chicken - the most moist, juicy, delicious chicken (and indeed poultry) I have ever eaten - and I've eaten in 2 michelin starred and 2 hatted restaurants. Brined, grilled and then put in some sort of magic oven. Then the brioche and lemon curd dessert - I was torn between forcing my fellow diners to taste it (because it was rocking my world) or keeping it all to my self. So very good.I'm also torn about writing this review - because Etta is 5 mins from where we live and I don't want it to become impossible to get into! This was so much better than Attica - every single bite was a joy. The service was also excellent - unobtrusive but ever present waiter. Thoughtfully catered for the 8 year old by presenting the dessert in a deconstructed way so she could eat the bits she liked (which ended up being virtually all of it anyway).Etta is unpretentious but elegant, professional and classy through and through and a credit to the team.
Etta delivers a dining experience that exceeds expectations. Staff were welcoming as we were shown to our table and the atmosphere was splendid - it felt quiet and intimate despite being quite busy. We went for the "leave it to us" option at 60 dollars each. It. Was. Splendid. I cant fault it! Food was served professionally, the team were genuine (willing to answer our questions, attentive and friendly, but also respectful of our space), and the flavours were perfect. Wouldn't change a thing. Just a pity I don't live in Melbourne to visit more often... Menu has options of dietary requirements (I'm vegetarian). Recommend ordering the sourdough with brown butter, the roasted carrots and the broccoli entree. But the winner of the night of the chocolate mousse with blood orange sorbet and fresh mandarin. Do yourself a favour and go to Etta.
Discretely sited restaurant with friendly and extremely efficient service. Four of us went at 6 pm which was quieter than later on to have a $65 degustation selection. The wines offered were well chosen and the food was utterly superb. Quantities were just right, balance of textures, appearance and flavours was very well thought out and the mix of interesting and complex ingredients was a sheer gourmet delight. The best meal we've had for years.
This restaurant hasn't been open for long but the reviews have all been positive so I thought I would give it a try. It didn't disappoint. The food and drinks menu is extensive so much so that we couldn't decide so we left it up to the waiter to do it. They have a $60 per head selection so we went with that. The food is delicious and appropriately proportioned. The waiters were attentive without being overly familiar. They have managed to get the acoustics right because we could hear each other without being drowned out by background noise. Definitely going again.
