What User doesn't like about Dimatina:
Ate here before and was happy. This time though the food was cold, sent it back and it came back cold again. We waited 45 minutes for the entree to arrive and another 20 or so minutes for the main. Waiter was good and apologised got us a free drink. However, the night was spoilt a bit. I think they take on too much and the kitchen can't cope. Anyway, maybe it was a bad night for them. We rung at the last minute on a Saturday night for a table of 10. It should have rung bells when they were able to accommodate so many people in such sort notice. The service was appalling the waitress started taking orders after 45 mins and that's only after we made mention to the manager that we had been there waiting for such a long time. Eventually she started taking orders, she took 2 orders and then just left our table and went to another table and started to take their orders. We complained to the owner, he was very apologetic and told us he would organise some free bruschetta and organise the waitress to come immediately. As expected, The food was as bad as the service, the pasta was over cooked the sauce tasted like it was out if a can and the calamari was as dry as a bone. We were so disappointed that none of us wanted to stay for desert. The topping on the cake was when they presented the bill, they put the cost of the bruschetta on it, when I queried it, I was told the owner didn't mean it was free, I couldn't confirm this with him as he had left for the night. I just paid and got out of there as fast as I could never to return again. Extremely disappointed.
Not sure if we just happened to dine here on a 'bad' day (Sunday lunch) but it certainly wasn't as good as the last time we visited some time ago.Oysters were served warm and not chilled at all, yet the eggplant chips were so hot they scolded our mouths! My flounder was lukewarm and lacked seasoning. The roasted potatoes came out burnt, however were replaced when requested. My husband's lasagna was a hit as was the garden salad. On the upside the staff are warm and welcoming and the restaurant has a welcoming feel. The wine we chose was out of stock however the waiter offered a comparable bottle at the same price. We asked if we could try it before committing and he happily obliged us. I'm not going to write Dimatina's off - I feel we were just unlucky on the day we visited.
Had a weekend in Melbourne. Lygon St for dinner so many to restaurants to choose, It was great food and fast service. The waiter knew the menu well. She was happy and helpful. Modern food with old decor but still great atmosphere. If you don't like sitting close to others don't go. Only thing I didn't enjoy but other than that good value and good service.
We popped in for dinner on a rain soaked night. The children's menu went down a treat for our 11 yo (cheeseburger & fries w a dessert!). My partner and I shared various tapas style entrees (pepper squid rings, eggplant chips, arancini, bruschetta). Good food friendly service @ Lygon Street price. Bon apetito!
A friend and I ate at this restaurant in November, we were very pleased with the way the restaurant looked at first glance. The service was great, even though it was fairly busy as it was Saturday. The waiter seated us fairly quickly without a reservation. The food was great, and delicious. Fast and on time. We were served by James, who was very nice and welcoming. Thank you james and to Dimatina restaurant for the great experience.
