No booking, but able to get a table overlooking the Yarra. All male staff very attentive. Good selection of dishes available to accommodate all tastes, plus extensive drink menu. Funk decor.
From the time my wife and I walked into Bluetrain - without a booking on a Saturday night - we were made to feel very welcome. We were told there would be a 15-minute wait for a table but were seated by an obliging staff member within five minutes of our arrival. Our meals - a duck risotto and a delicious veal dish - were exceptional. The music was not at all intrusive and at just the right volume level. We were very impressed by the young waiter who was very friendly and welcoming and also by the artful design of the restaurant with an attention to detail that made for a warm, vibrant and contemporary atmosphere. The view of the Yarra, Flinders Street Station and the lights of Melbourne's CBD cityscape from our window seat helped make our evening at Bluetrain a memorable one. We will definitely return.
Not worth the visit. We arrived for breakfast at 11am on Sunday morning only to be told 'we don't do breakfast'. The 'Breakfast Out Now Sat and Sunday's 8am - 11am' banners plastered all over the Bluetrain website are obviously incorrect. When we showed the incredibly rude staff member a copy of THEIR OWN WEBSITE including a copy of their menu, we were told in a simple one line 'must be old' and the staff member walked off. Given we had paid $12 per car to park in the centre to attend breakfast, even a simple apology or acknowledgement of the website error would have been appropriate. How you can be so incredibly rude in a service based industry is appalling and in a digital / web based world I would imagine an updated website should be paramount? What a terrible experience. Don't bother with a visit.
This place is amazing. The food is great and diverse. There is something to eat for everyone. The decor is great. The vibe and friendly staff make it memorable. Most of all you get the great view of Southbank without the hefty price tag. I really think this is a hidden gem and I always take my good friends here. Bluetrain, keep being you, see you next time
