What Uriah Braun dislikes about Bistro Gitan:
dinner with friends in the bistro gitan. that's the first time we've been at gitan for a few years. although the service was good, my critique is aimed at the pitiful quality of the main course that I had chosen was a lamb. rump this was cut into thin pieces, with each piece with a large section of fat, typical of lamb fat from the night before the roasting one has to be home. it even reminded me that the cut cold fa... Such a great French bistrot! Everything we tried was absolutely delicious Even the desserts were simple but they done it right , Service was lovely just wish when the french lady explain the menu need to slowing down and clear . But overall, really enjoyed it! Definitely will coming back Meal type: Dinner Price per person: A$120–140 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
I spent 8 minutes pacing back and forth around the restaurant because I didn’t know where the entrance was, so that was great. Anyways, order the piccata of chicken livers. I am convinced the only reason this restaurant is still open, is because of the piccata of chicken livers. It’s the best dish and the only reason I would ever come back. Did I mention how great the chicken livers were? Servers are very attentive, I left to go to the bathroom and they refolded my napkin lolololol. P.S get the piccata of chicken livers. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: A$60–80 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Love the food and love the service!! Haven’t been let down yet, keep up the good work
From the moment you walk in the door the Bistro Gitan experience begins. The service, the food, drinks are just perfection- love this place.
Service was excellent and food was exactly what I imagined when ordered... how spoilt can you be to give this a bad review? It was great and I thoroughly enjoyed my night! AAA+!
We had a beautiful lunch Bistro Gitan last Saturday. One of my fav restaurants in Melb. Food and service was perfect.
One of Melbourne's best!! With great look and feel, Gitan's fun and friendly staff provide excellent service. The food is wonderful, the wine list is international, and interesting. I had the Coffin Bay Oysters last night, which were served with a refreshing, fun sorbet. The only disappointment was that I had to eventually go home!!

Good service, good steak and great shoe-string fries. Has a little fireplace area which is nice for a drink or before/after meal in winter. Comparable pricing to other French cuisine in the area. Have been there with and without the kids and always enjoyed...it.

Absolutely fabulous evening. amazing eating, drinks and service. very recommended and will go to the restaurant.
I am not used to giving such bad reviews, especially not for a place that had a high score on tripadvisor. this place looks really beautiful and fancy, packed with people, seems like a good start and I had great expectations. eating was really bad:...I started with a steaktar that was too sour, with inconspicuous acid and too much seasoning. I couldn't taste the meat, not even sure it was meat. the pumpkin soup was ok in taste, but too heavy, felt like baby food. the main course was a snapper that was fried and so oily that was sweet on the side had strange anis taste, there were some tiny bad tasting prawns in it. and for dessert I had the cream brûlée, in the hope that it will delete the bad taste in my mouth, but the custard was too thick and the too thick shell. I just can't believe I had such a bad meal, in a place so high. in a city with thousands of good restaurant, they would be wise to go somewhere else.
