After doing some shopping in the area I had a hankering for a quality coffee and a spot of brunch. After a quick search it was obvious from the reviews that Balderdash was going to be the right choice based on my needs.First impressions was a busy cafe with the smell of fresh coffee wafting through the premises. We were greeted by a friendly waitress and taken to our table and promptly asked what coffee we would like.Whilst waiting, perusing through the menu, there was a reasonable amount of dishes to mull over. The benedict, the corn fritters and the smashed avo all appealed and as such the smashed avocado won the selection. The dish was ordered and arrived in 8 minutes, super fast which is a tick in the box considering my stomach was eating itself. The Avocado serving was extremely generous; was super smooth and was clearly a good quality avocado. This was presented on crunchy sourdough with 2 poached eggs (may I say, perfectly poached) and a lime. Small side dish of fresh chilli and cream fraishe was given too (chilli had a decent amount of heat). The dish wasn't complex like some cafes it was just good quality food. The coffee... well, like many of the reviews comment; the coffee was of good quality and served fast, the short Macchiato was good strength and flavour, not overly complex in its flavour profile but a high quality coffee nonetheless.Parking was not great; street/side street parking but there is a Coles car park approximately 5 minutes walk away. The restroom let the cafe down. 1 restroom and it wasn't clean- thick dust over many surfaces and the hand wash was empty and no paper towels/hand dryer was available.Further to that, looking around at the cafe, the area a few areas where your eyes can see thick dirty dust. Paying more attention to this is a must in my view.SUMMARYA cafe serving up quality food and coffee. The staff are relaxed, casual and offer good service.Just hope the staff read this review and check their thoroughness of cleaning.Service Efficiency. 4/5Atmosphere/Ambiance. 3/5Quality of Coffee. 4/5Quality of Food. 4/5Price Range (Low, Medium, High): MediumFree Wi-fi?: NoBreakfast Finishes at: All DayDo they accept AMEX/Diners Club Cards?: NoValue for money. 4/5Availability & Cleanliness of Restrooms. 2/5Parking Availability. 4/5 (side street parking or Coles - 203 Bay Street)Total 25/35
Had toasted avocado chicken coleslaw with a hint of spice which was beautifully presented & yummy. My friend had corn fritters plus. Serving size was perfect. The decor is casual & lots of local eclectic peoples. All was done well with no pretensions. Going back for sure!
Best espresso coffee in Port Melbourne, cold-drips are also great on a hot day! friendly team and yummy food.
A lovely, friendly cafe in a great location in Port Melbourne, Balderdash is a great place to stop in for a coffee. With warm and welcoming staff, and a bustling vibe, it can get really busy here but the staff still manage to look after everyone equally. Coffee is perfect and there is a delicious food menu, as well as a great assortment of baked goodies. A beautiful spot to sit and relax with friends, Balderdash is definitely a winner in this area.
