When here, I enjoy taking my mother’s dog for his morning walk that includes stopping into my favorite coffee shop, Willoughby's, to get a cup of their daily featured brew to go.This morning, holding Watson in my arms and my card in my hand, I was immediately told by the young woman behind the counter that ”we don’t allow dogs.” Caught off guard by this unexpected greeting, I explained that I was not staying and would just like a cup of coffee to go. Her response, “We can’t even take you.”After that, my happy mood turned to concern. I love my hometown. My family goes back several generations in Madison. Over the years and decades, many changes have taken place here; some I agree with and some perhaps not so much.Most importantly, I hope that, with growth and change, we are able to maintain a culture of friendly behaviours, as well as, a pet friendly town for responsible pet owners.Fortunately, when I decided to go across the street to a newer shop; I was greeted with multiple smiles and good mornings from all the people working there.Please shop owners and citizens let’s maintain a positive and friendly culture within this special town that we all call home.
