I really enjoy this restaurant, and the food is fantastic! However, I was disappointed by the way I was treated by Dawn. As a loyal customer who has supported them throughout the pandemic, I still want to recommend this place, but I may reconsider spending my money here. The issue arose when I was charged nearly $23 for a small portion of chicken scraps along with fries and broccoli. Despite ordering the same dish every month for years, I felt poorly treated by an overwhelmed manager during a phone call. When I called back to discuss the issue, I was accused of using profanity and told that they supported the manager’s actions. While I did use a swear word, it was not directed at anyone, and I quickly apologized. Despite my attempts to resolve the situation and my decision to decline a complimentary meal, I was met with rudeness. The management definitely needs improvement, but on a positive note, the bartender John is fantastic, and some of the wait staff are also great. Overall, I recommend dining here, but I believe the managers could benefit from additional training.
This was our second visit to this restaurant, and it exceeded our first experience. The food was exquisite, with the brisket literally melting in your mouth and the chicken chili bursting with flavor. The wood-fired flatbread was the best appetizer I've ever had. Our server, Jae, was wonderful—very attentive and friendly. We'll definitely be returning.
Flat River Grill is located in the charming historic district of Lowell, right beside the serene banks of the Flat River. This warm-hued restaurant truly delivers a delightful experience! The house-made salsa is exceptional, and the bread and oil feature a wonderfully aromatic blend of spices and hard cheese, far exceeding the standard bread and butter fare. I was advised by our server to try the pork dish, and I must say, the only downside was needing a takeout box for the leftovers! The risotto was nothing short of amazing, with its perfectly developed flavors, textures, and doneness. It paired wonderfully with a protein as a main course. Flat River Grill went the extra mile to accommodate minor preferences, ensuring there’s something for everyone on the menu. While the outdoor dining area boasts stunning river views, we opted for indoor seating due to the wait, and the vintage ambiance was a lovely surprise. Overall, I look forward to many more visits to this gem, which was just a pleasant short drive from Grand Rapids!
I loved the food at Flat River Grill. There was a slight wait, but it wasn’t too long. The service was excellent. My only complaint is that I wish there had been more gravy—it was absolutely delicious!
I visited Flat River Grill with my boyfriend and we were quickly seated. You can choose to dine indoors or outdoors, though outdoor seating might require a wait. I recommend making a reservation if you want to sit outside. We both tried the white chicken chili, which came with a complimentary bread appetizer. The bread was soft and delicious, perfectly pairing with the chili. The white chicken chili was flavorful and satisfying—I’ll definitely order it again. The service was excellent, with a friendly young server taking great care of us. Plus, they offer the convenient option to pay online. I’m looking forward to coming back soon!
