Description

Wagner's is a beloved Lockport institution known for its signature beef-on-weck, award-winning wings, hearty fish fries and occasional perfect prime rib. The cozy, 1940s-era corner bar atmosphere—complete with Genesee beer—makes it a local gathering spot near the courthouse. Diners praise standout mains but warn of inconsistent portions, lukewarm plates, inattentive or brusque service and disappointing desserts like grainy or melting sundaes. Overall, a nostalgic, casual destination worth visiting for the beef-on-weck and wings, but expect variable execution.

Absolutely delicious. Shrimp Scampi was the absolute best I have ever had. Would definitely go back . A must if you are in Lockport.

Just driving thru and decided to grab a late lunch. It was fantastic, especially the Beef Wrek. Fresh and crispy onion rings, too. Lots of options, even award winning wings. Topped it all off with a cold beer and left super happy. Will definitely stop again.

That authentic hideaway you take friends to for the perfect beef-on-weck. It feels like you’re stepping back into a 1940s movie when you enter this Lockport institution. Yes, Wagners is the first floor of a house that’s a restaurant in a residential neighborhood right next to an industrial neighborhood! And that’s exactly what makes this place so cool. Experience your beef-on-weck sandwich in true WNY fashion with a Genesee beer, and be sure to order extra horseradish and au jus (roast beef juice drippings left after cooking). The soft bottom of the kummelweck roll’s top needs to be made soggy with the au jus, and the thinly-sliced roast beef stacked on the roll’s bottom is ideally coated in a thick layer of genuine horseradish. With your first bite you’ll quickly understand just why Wagners is the place to go for WNY’s signature culinary staple, first introduced in Buffalo in the late 1800s by German immigrants. While a beef-on-weck sounds like a simple sandwich, getting it to tasty perfection is a real art that Wagners has truly mastered over the decades. The friendly staff here make you feel like you’re in the dining room of a good friend’s home. The restaurant also has plenty of other great menu choices and really terrific desserts as well. You’ll come back here again and again though, for more of Wagners’ quintessential beef-on-weck.
