Nestled in a charming town, this restaurant presents a mixed bag of dining experiences. While some patrons praised the exceptional quality of dishes like fish and chips, others reported underwhelming meals, such as watery tikka masala and lackluster prawn cocktails. The Sunday carvery showcased tender meats but suffered from slow service and smaller portion sizes. Cleanliness and ambiance received mixed reviews, though the attentive staff consistently earned commendations. Overall, this eatery shines in some areas while falling short in others, making it a hit-or-miss destination for diners seeking quality food and a pleasant atmosphere.

We decided to stop for Sunday lunch at the County, the sign indicated carvery for £14.95 a head. It was just after 12 (sign said lunch served from 12 so we went in. The lady waiting on (Marj ? greeted us and said it would be about half an hour for food if we didn’t mind waiting. We were in no rush so took a seat. On first impressions the dining area looks lovely. Closer inspection (while you wait! the upholstery on the chairs needs a thorough clean, the paint on the walls needs updating and the floor boards securing (every time someone passed our table it moved! It seems locals go here often and the atmosphere was relaxed. There was a birthday party in the nearby function room and this must have put a pressure on the kitchen. Veg started to be put on the hot plate after about a 50 minute wait and eventually, an hour and 10 Minutes after being seated the food started to come through. A choice of three meats (turkey/beef or gammon . The meats were very well cooked and were tender and moist, however the smallest portions seen. Plenty of veg to choose from and these were kept topped up. Yorkshire puddings were massive (and nice! most diners left after the main course, we had a dessert (jam sponge bought in, definitely not home made. The wait staff were efficient and friendly, let down only by the kitchen and the pressure of a party happening at the same time as lunch. We don’t think there was £15 worth of a carvery, which was a shame as it tasted nice.

Stayed here for B B one night on our way to Scotland as a convenient distance from motorway. We were given a larger family room was clean and bed comfy, we had a good quiet nights sleep. As we were delayed due to an accident on the way, I was able to notify them and receive a reply which was reassuring. We wanted to leave early morning so Tina agreed to make a tray up for breakfast to take to our room for us to have at our leisure.. There was plenty to eat, bananas, grapes, apples and peaches, cereal, bread, jam, honey, ready wrapped pastry chocolate crepe. We arranged for a bucket of ice to keep the dairy cool which worked well. We were too late to eat in the restaurant. Carnforth is a pretty town.

My friend and I stayed at the restaurant on Thursday night and we were very disappointed with our experience. While the furnishings were nice and the room was spacious and well organized, there were several shortcomings. When we arrived at 2:00pm, we were disappointed to find that they did not have any draft real ale, plain crisps, or nuts available. Additionally, when we returned from a meeting at 9:45pm, the bar was still open but they had already stopped serving. Throughout our stay, it was challenging to find anyone available to provide assistance. The next morning, we went to the main hotel for breakfast at 8:30am only to find it completely locked up and no sign of breakfast being served. Overall, we were not impressed with the service and amenities provided by the restaurant.

We had to spend an hour in town before the Railway Heritage centre opened, and this was one of the places open where you can sit down in warm. I think that's the last good thing we can say about this place. The service was slow, and the English Breakfast we ordered take long time to get and was rather cold and not really fresh. They charged £1,50 for a babychino which was not even a babychino just a little warm milk and £1,95 for two additional toasts to the breakfast. Avoid them for ever.
