Nestled by the railway station in Kyle of Lochalsh, The Lighthouse Café has become a cherished spot for locals and travelers alike. With its modest décor and friendly atmosphere, patrons enjoy a selection of beverages, homemade soups, and delectable pastries. While the coffee receives praise, standout items include the fresh rolls and delicious homemade cakes. A unique "Pay it Forward" initiative allows customers to support those in need, enhancing the café's warm community spirit. Though it may lack breakfast offerings, the exceptional service and tasty menu make this café a must-visit for anyone in the area.
The Lighthouse Café is located next to the railway station of Kyle of Lochalsh, the end of the single-track Kyle of Lochalsh Line. The café is popular with locals, train passengers and by-passers. Free WiFi. Service is friendly and efficient. Waiting for the Inverness train we spotted the spacious café. Furniture and decoration are in a modest style. The café offers coffee tea, soups, sandwiches cake. We went for coffee white tea, pastry and rolls. The coffee was OK, the pastry poor, the tea was fine and the freshly made rolls with ham, cheese tomato were excellent.
We made a pit stop for a bacon roll and tea after crossing the bridge from Skye. It was a delightful experience to savor some delicious food and have a chat with Stuart and Stevie.
Whilst it may look unpresupposing from the outside I warmly recommend this cafe, the homemade soup was delicious, lovely warm crusty roll to go with it, grand coffee and flapjack, excellent value.
I normally go for the Flat White as it’s the best I’ve tried but in the afternoon I often sample some of his delicious, homemade milkshakes. The home baking and soup is also great and the local “living hope” charity benefit from proceeds.
As we were driving to the Isle of Skye we decided to stop for a coffee before we drove over the bridge. Luckily there was a space just outside this coffee shop, with hindsight I think it might be a church hall? But eaither way we popped in, there was a gentleman making the coffees etc and very chatty. While He was making the drinks I noticed a blackboard with post it’s on, asking if you were having a bad day etc and just needed a free coffee/sandwich? Then I noticed that it was for people to buy said food/drinks for the less fortunate. Brilliant idea especially as I contribute to our local Foodbank each week, I felt I was still doing my bit even when on holiday.
