Heilan Scran - Kyle
Heilan Scran
Description
The vegan mushroom sandwich at Heilan Scran in Kyle, Scotland was served with crisps and vegan cheese, which made me happy. However, I wish there were more vegan options available. The price was £7.90.

Although there’s only one breakfast and one lunch option both are some of the most delicious food I’ve found in my two weeks in Scotland. Also very handy to know about when travelling the highlands and vegan food is a bit harder to come by. You can visit the outside of the castle and eat and use the toilets without needing to buy a ticket to the castle. Just be aware that due to Covid measures you may need to queue for both.
I recently tried the vegan mushroom sandwich at this restaurant, which came with crisps. It was decent, and I was pleased to see they offered vegan cheese. However, they only had one vegan option on the menu, and I felt that the price of £7.90 was a bit steep. Overall, my experience was just okay. (Review updated on June 21, 2023)
We arrived at the restaurant during breakfast hours hoping to enjoy a vegan haggis bap, but were disappointed to find that it was no longer available on the menu. However, we asked the counter staff and they kindly offered to make us a vegan mozzarella, sundried tomato, and pepper toastie, which is normally only served after 12pm. The toastie was delicious and we were grateful for their flexibility in accommodating our request.
Unfortunately, it seems that the restaurant no longer offers the items they used to have. That's a shame.
We came to breakfast with the hope of trying a vegan Haggis-Bap, only to find out that it was no longer available on the menu. However, we inquired at the counter and they were able to make us a substitute with vegan mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, and roasted peppers, which are usually only served after 12 o'clock. The toastie was simple yet delicious, and we were grateful that they were able to accommodate us with something outside of their usual menu.
