I found it a little strange with it's slightly confusin... read more My Husband and I were looking for a restaurant close to Centre in the Square and found Stonegate Bistro. I found it a little strange with it's slightly confusing entrance and stairway to the basement. Loved the stone arches(hence the name) We were seated right away as we were early. Service was good, the waitress pleasant, however she needs to stop apologizing for everything. She brought us two glasses of room temperature water with a slice of lemon on the rim. I asked for ice. She took my glass away and brought a new one with 3 cubes of what looked like homemade tray ice. Husband ordered a diet coke, which was fountain poured with no fizz. She brought us a bread basket and two bowls with peppered olive oil to dip our bread in. The bread was homemade and very tasty, however there was no more than a couple of tablespoons of oil in the bottom of the bowl. I ordered the grilled vegetable salad which was very tasty and satisfied my appetite. My Husband ordered the chicken penne. He said the flavour was good, but the pasta had an odd texture and the chicken tastes like it had been frozen, heated in the microwave and cut up. He compared it to a TV dinner. We did not order alcohol as we found the prices quite high. Over all, we found the atmosphere quaint, service good, and the food half good half disappointing. We could also see that they were trying to cut costs where ever possible, while charging higher end prices. We probably will not be back.

Started with a great size of the the Wild Mushroom & Goat Cheese soup which was creamy and wonderful followed by Grilled Vegetables Plate and the mushroom flatbread that was completely covered with dressing and a nice chilli spice. Finished with a a mixed salad and steak. The meal was wonderful and I highly recommend this place!

The food was great, service was awesome and the hosts were exceptional at making us feel welcome. I recommend this location for a group or couples looking for a nice night out without all the loud noisy crowds to talk over. We all had the Three Course Meal menu for supper-everyone was raving about the meal-especially the people who chose the beef cuts.
