Being from out of town, and needing a place that would cater to my dietary needs, we once again relied on Swiss Chalet. As my husband always says, they offer a 'standard level of standardness'. This may seem a somewhat lackluster description of what the restaurant has to offer, but it is true that, from one Swiss Chalet to another, you can always rely on being served good, wholesome food. Six of us arrived around 6, there was a wait line even though there were quite a few empty tables. Waitress did not come for about 10 minutes to take our drink order, that was our shortest wait. It took over an hour for our food to come. The wait was bad enough but the Waitress just dropped drinks, appetizers & dipping sauce at the end of the table. No explanation, no apologies. I thought maybe it was just a bad nigh... View all feedback.
We usually go to the Ira Needles location, but last night we needed to go to the Highland location since it was in close proximity to our son's school. Big mistake.First of all... the chicken was terrific and the server was generally quite nice. That's about it.The restaurant was less than half-full and after our experience and reading about others' experiences here on TripAdvisor, I'm starting to really understand why it's half-full after being usually full in years past.Even though the restaurant was half-full, we didn't see a server for nearly 10 minutes before we were able to place a drink order. It took another five minutes before he returned with the drinks and to take our order, even though we advised him we were ready to order at the time the drinks were ordered. The wait for the food was excruciating, and my mother eventually got up and searched for the server and asked him why it took so long. He explained that the chickens were cooking in the rotisserie -- really? It's the dinner hour so you'd think they'd have plenty of chickens on the go and cooking and/or be ready in case of customers and/or take-out orders. Two minutes later, he came back and said he could offer 15% off the bill for the wait. We told him we would be happy to pay the full price if service was reasonable; getting a discount wasn't important to us. At the same time, we requested two drink refills as they had been long-ago drunk up during the wait (the server never checked on us the entire time to see if we wanted any refills or anything else). It took 23 minutes for the refills to come -- we timed it. A minute later, the food finally arrived, a good 40 or 45 minutes after we ordered. As mentioned, the chicken was delicious - it was hot and tasted fresh. However, the fries were stone cold and the corn on the cob was warm on the outside but when you bit through it, it was cold. Clearly it had been dunked in a cool pot of water for hours (?) and then momentarily zapped in some hot water before being placed on the dish. One other person in our party had a baked potato that was perhaps 3/4 cooked through. All in all, it appeared the server was in over his head as the coordination in the restaurant was quite poor and he was left to fend for himself. He was nice enough but you could tell that he had quite a burden on him with the service. Shame on the management for not providing a better level of service and coordination in the restaurant and for taking obvious shortcuts with the food. After about 12 or so visits to this location in all my years spent in Kitchener, this will be the last time I go there.
My family recently ordered take out from this location as we all like Swiss Chalet and the restaurant is close to our home. There were 7 of us in the group. Our order included 1 hot beef sandwich with fries, beef dinner with mashed potatoes, chicken wrap with no tomato, double chicken leg dinner and 3 chicken dinners with white meat and fries. My husband drove to the restaurant and placed the order, reading from a list that we had prepared. He even had the girl taking the order check it against what was written on the list. When he got home, we opened up the food containers, eager to enjoy our meals but found that 4 of the orders were wrong. The hot beef sandwich order had the bread and beef and fries but NO gravy. The beef dinner was served with fries instead of mashed potatoes. The wrap had tomato (an easy fix for my son who just removed the tomato). There were 4 chicken dinners with white meat and fries and no double chicken leg dinner. So 4 of the 7 meals were packaged and served incorrectly. We have eaten at this location many times in the past and have ordered in without having any problems but this experience was truly disappointing.

I thought maybe it was just a bad night but reading other reviews, this is obviously an ongoing problem. Will not be going back!
Regretfully I don't plan to return to this Swiss Chalet. I am a fan of this chain but this location had really slow service. The waitress brought my food and never once again checked if everything was ok. We asked for the bill and even that took awhile to bring.
We have been ordering from here for years and they were never able to get an order right no matter what. When Ira needles opened up we stopped using this location for obvious reasons. New Year's Day Ira needles was closed so we decided to try this meals from here
