What Ralph Schamberger doesn't like about Chong Co:
Check your bill !! They added 3 x corkage to the bill despite that we ordered most expensive withe wine on the wine list and no BYO. When I pointed out it was just sorry Food OK View all feedback.
I lived in Thailand and know that I am really confused by the good reviews that this restaurant had. we ordered him the delivery. all the dishes were sick sweet to the point that was almost indelible. the Massaman cow cure was very good, beautiful and tender. if not for sugar, it could be a very good dish. satay huh not bad either, except again too sweet. the tough overboiled sweet grilled lamb was disappointing, but the most disappointing dish was the pad thai. my man called it “gloop”. it floated in a kind of sticky sweet sauce and so it almost resembled a thick saucy suppe (see unobtrusive picture.) it let me ask if the cook ever really eat pad thai. it was completely unusable and went right into it, if I had gedimt it, I would have sent back. eating here is not just authentic. it's sick. we felt sick to eat so much sugar.
We visited in august 2022 as a family (2 children in the age of 8 and 11 years) to dinner. we had a good service from the staff and really enjoyed our meal. we shared spring rolls and chickens' sown that we all loved the spits. for the net we have. phad thai, a court and a pig's bowl divided. all were delicious. we would definitely return to chong co.
Two out of three times here were terrible. eating is okay, but the service is terrible. had a booking for 8 o'clock, ordering at 8:30, 2 curs banquet was ordered for 6. the 1st course arrived at 9:00 clock, the 2nd course arrived at 9:30, 10min. later we were advised that they closed the kitchen and if we wanted to order more, we had to do so so that we ordered our deep fried ice. we then had employees who collect our tellers while we still eat, then they asked us to sort the bill before we started the desert. no manate, ruined what should have been a good night
This restaurant has a lovely outlook on the Kingston Foreshore. The restaurant was bustling with patrons on the Canberra Day holiday, but service was quick and efficient. The dishes we had were delicious.
The restaurant is in a great location on the Kingston Foreshore and offers inside and outside dining. We chose the outside and under cover but it was a hot day and luckily we were under cover because we could still feel the heat but is...was not too much and did not distract from the meal. Chong Co uses good quality ingredients for the dishes we chose but compared to most Thai restaurants you will pay around $5 to $10 more per dish than elsewhere. I guess the rents are higher in this area. Our bill for 4 adults and 3 kids was $190. Water is supplied and the kids had soft drinks $3 each.Wine is $8.50 and up per glass with bottled wine from around $31 per bottle. We had: Jasmine rice for 5 17.50 with refills free Crispy pork belly and greens $27- serve smallish, not much pork but nice food. Chicken and cashew nuts- good sized, tasty $24 Pad Thai with extra prawns, good sized ok for a pad thai but not too much flavour in this dish- overpriced at $31. for a noodle dish. Penang curry , good sized, nice spicy flavour, $25 Black pepper crab, medium sized dish, nice presentation , best dish of the lot. a bit pricey at $33 . Overall the food is good and reasonably authentic tasting, unfortunately that Western influence has crept in with the food dummed down for our palates so a lot of the real Thai tastes don't come through but good quality ingredients were used with all the dishes. The place was clean, the service quick and polite and certainly worth a visit if you don't mind paying a bit more. The view to the water is great.
