Jack’s Coastguard - Killorglin
Jack’s Coastguard
Description
Our experience at this restaurant was very disappointing, with rushed service and poor seating. The food was good but overpriced. Other reviews also mention slow service, average food quality, and the need for improvements in the bar and toilets. However, some guests praised the friendly staff, top-class food, warm atmosphere, and lovely views. Many enjoyed the delicious menu options and generous portions. Overall, Jack's Coastguard Restaurant seems to offer a mixed experience, with potential for improvement in some areas but providing excellent service, ambiance, and food quality for others.

Feedback
I decided to treat myself to a solo dinner at Jack’s Coastguard. While dining alone felt a bit intimidating at first, the experience turned out to be wonderful. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. The food was delicious, and they happily accommodated a special request. What made the evening even more memorable was the enchanting piano music played by JP—a true delight and a true gentleman. JP performs here from Thursday to Sunday, and he’s absolutely worth coming just to listen to. Plus, the restaurant offers an incredible sea view that adds to the charm. I’ll definitely be coming back again and again.
I booked a table for a Saturday night, and even though there was a wedding happening, it didn’t disrupt our experience. We were seated at a charming table by the window with a stunning view, while JP played piano in the background. The food was fantastic—my husband loved the Black Sole, and I enjoyed the Tempura Prawns for my main course. One of our guests had dietary restrictions, and Jack’s handled it flawlessly. Overall, the food was outstanding and the atmosphere was just right.
Jack’s Coastguard served up breathtaking sunset views and delicious dishes—we enjoyed the oysters and cod. Our waitress, Claire, delivered outstanding service with a cheerful smile. The front of the restaurant had a warm, pub-like vibe, while the back offered a more refined setting. Although it’s considered fine dining, the overall atmosphere was relaxed and informal, with guests ranging from dressed-up to casual in jeans and sneakers.
I had a wonderful experience at Jack’s Coastguard. The restaurant is warm and roomy, with stunning views of the garden, sea, and mountains. The atmosphere was perfect for a relaxed meal and good conversation. The food was tasty and served in generous portions. Standouts were the ham hock starter and the crispy skin salmon with fresh samphire—both dishes felt like fine dining but at an affordable price of €29 for two courses. We will definitely return.
Our special evening at Jack’s Coastguard was quite underwhelming. The service seemed rushed, and we were placed in a cold spot next to the exit door. We never received a wine list or any bread at our table. Nearby loud groups made it difficult to have a conversation without speaking loudly. Although the food was tasty, the prices were rather high. When we shared our concerns with the staff, they neither apologized nor offered any form of compensation. Regrettably, we cannot recommend this restaurant.
