Came here for a late lunch after visiting local attractions. Three adults and a child - and we had difficulty choosing a place to eat that would have something for us all (especially the 6 year old!). We had a couple of spring rolls with bland plum sauce; then kung po chicken and beef with black pepper and plain rice. We were pleasantly surprised that the food was of such good quality. Service was good, and the food... View all feedback.
What Josefa Melgar doesn't like about Cantonese Restaurant:
Honestly, this place is horrible and disgusting. I'm not being over critical or rude, just blunt and honest. This restaurant was definitely the worst tasting Chinese I've ever had in my life. We had to send the ginger beef back because the sauce was basically like Aunt Jemima syrup with no flavour of ginger what so ever. Honestly save your money, you WILL regret eating here. Worst Chinese food ever. It's definitely make to scam for tourists with their non quality foods. I don't recommend anyone to eat there or even use their washroom. My youngest ordered wonton soup and it came raw. Didn't get to serve us after we ask for server there was hardly any customers in there. Awful awful awful. Stay away!
There appears to be only one Chinese/Cantonese restaurant in Jasper so it has no competition. By UK standards the food was no better than average. So if you are used to UK meals you could be disappointed. We had a set meal for two. The portions were big enough. Total cost C$56. Service was not up to the high standard we found in other restaurants in Canada.
We had our dinner at this only Chinese restaurant in Jasper town. The food there was average not very genuine Chinese but the size is huge, more Western style. Good thing of this restaurant is that the restaurant is outstandingly clean compared to normal Chinese restaurants and the service staff are responsive and smart. Overall my dinner experience is fine.
Food distinctly average. The spring rolls tasted very greasy and the wonton soup tasteless. The service was "hit and miss". The toilets were untidy and dirty. The meal came to $65 and we left $70, only to be told by the Manager that we needed to give at least 10 to 15%, so he asked us for more money! Needless to say we did not oblige!
I'm not sure why this restaurant has many negative reviews, as my experience there was quite pleasant. I was on vacation at the time, and since my family is Chinese and this is the only Chinese restaurant in Jasper (and the only one in a 200 km radius) we came in. It was fairly empty, so we had low expectations. But we were pleasantly surprised. Firstly, the service was outstanding. I go to Chinese restaurants often, and the service is usually meh. But not this restaurant. We were seated immediately, with menus, tea, and everything ready. The server was very friendly and provided us with good suggestions. The food came really fast (took 7ish minutes) and was hot, authentic, and delicious. I'm from a Chinese household so I know my Chinese food. The server checked on us multiple times (which almost never happens in Chinese restaurants), and made sure we were all good. When we finished the server offered us fortune cookies and gave some extra to the kids. Only downside is that the food was pricey, but Jasper is a tourist city so you can't expect too much. But if you know how to order, the bill won't be too much. I read another review where 2 ppl racked up a $70 bill, but our 8 person party was less than 180. Overall great experience.
