Great restaurant for a fun night out in Ithaca Good for dinner with your parents, professors or an undergrad 3rd date.
Had a brunch / lunch. Cool atmosphere like the West Village in NYC. Killer **** Mary Food is fresh and the portions were the right size.
Food was spectacular. I had not had a couscous as good as that in over 20 years. We tried chicken, merguez, lamb and rabbit...all fantastic. And so we're the cumin chickpeas and desserts. Thank you.
Agava, once a family favorite, has lost its appeal due to recent issues with service and food quality. Multiple patrons have complained about slow service, mistakes with orders, cold and undercooked food, and unimpressive portions. In addition, some customers have experienced poor treatment from the waitstaff, with one waitress even breaking down in tears when asked to communicate with all members of a party. Despite these negative experiences, a few diners still found the food to be enjoyable and the service to be attentive, especially appreciating the farm-to-table concept and accommodating options for dietary restrictions. Overall, while Agava was once a highly regarded restaurant, recent visits have left many customers feeling disappointed and frustrated.

Food was really quite pleasant, staff is friendly, decor is artful. I've always been especially pleased with their vegetarian and vegan options, which are consistently full of flavor and excellent quality ingredients.
This restaurant has its ups and downs. Tonight's dinner was just okay, but three weeks ago, it was fantastic. You might have a great experience, so it's worth a try! We really love this neighborhood spot when things are on point, but we end up feeling quite disappointed when they aren't.
Cocktails are as wonderful as ever, but sadly seems the food (selection and prep) may have slidden as of late. Hoping it was just an off night as Agava is one of my former favs!
We ordered the corn dip which was really good but we waited over an hour for our dinner. We ended up asking it to go. Ridiculous we didn’t want to stay to eat bc we were with our toddler. Luckily the waitress had the brains to bring my daughters food first so she didn’t have to wait to eat. I think she forgot to put the order in because the table next to us received their food and they got there later. The waitress said she would bring the manager and he never showed up.
Later, a bug flew into my bowl of food, and when I mentioned it to her, she responded nonchalantly, asking if I wanted something else. I didn't, but she offered no apology or discount for the inconvenience. There were also flies buzzing around, and the Brussels sprouts were practically inedible because they were so hard. When we informed her, there was still no apology or offer of a replacement. It felt like an off night for her, or perhaps she was just unhappy, but regardless, when we're spending a good amount of money for a night out, we expect more from a place like this. Life does have more serious concerns, but we hope for better service and quality during our dining experiences.

I visited this restaurant in 2019 and it was really popular during my time as an undergraduate.
Excellent farm-to-table fare Vegetarian options: The cauliflower steak was quite good, with an excellent hummus.
Very disappointed for my first visit. Always wanted to try this place and will never go back. I found the longest grey hair in my sandwich that I have ever seen. The service was awful and my waiter was extremely rude. Ugh so disappointing.
Over hyped. Food was above avg, but def not the best ever. Portions were small, Enchiladas. Blackened catfish Tacos, not enough seasoning, very bland. Wait staff seemed to be rushing us, to flip the table. Menu limited, not many options. Too many other choices in the area, will prob not return.

Agava is a fantastic farm-to-table restaurant with a friendly and knowledgeable server. The main courses were delicious and the guacamole was exceptional. I highly recommend dining at Agava.
The fresh and locally sourced food at this restaurant was absolutely delicious, expertly prepared and beautifully presented. We indulged in the pistachio guacamole, scallops, and roast chicken breast. The guacamole was flavorful and generously portioned. The scallops were cooked perfectly, tender and succulent. The standout dish was the roast chicken, which was juicy and packed with flavor, boasting crispy, well-seasoned skin. The service was friendly and attentive throughout our meal.
The restaurant has an amazing ambiance, excellent service, and delicious food. They offer unique and creative menu options that are definitely worth trying!
Very poor service. Drinks to half hour and then drinks appetizer main course all Cale together. No excuse
Agava used to be a family favorite, but they no longer have a basic burrito. April 2019 they advertised on FB that they would have burritos for National Burrito Day but when we went for dinner the waitress made us feel out of line for asking. Also put an aoili and sauteed onions on the kids cheeseburger, which did not work for our child, but the waitress didn't come back for so long we were just ready to leave when she finally showed. Some food is great but our past couple visits have been so frustrating, it's now off our list.

This delightful restaurant is ideal for enjoying a tasty meal or drinks with friends. I have been several times and always have a great time. Its location on East Hill, near my home, makes it a convenient choice for me.
I had high expectations for Agava, but after two visits this fall, I was let down each time. Although there were a few positives, there were also some negatives. One highlight was the atmosphere...
