I have lived in Kaimuki my whole life, but it took me 24 years to finally try the long-standing Ruger Market, and now I regret waiting so long. This place is a gem. View all feedback.
I used to come here almost everyday before going to Culinary School at KCC. The food and offerings are pretty good. Poke is really good and musubis are good too. It’s very old school in here so it anime no fancy place but that’s what I like about it.
For as long as this place has been open I have never heard of seen this place and I was born and raised here on Oahu. But coming here for the first time was well worth the drive from Ewa Beach. They have Filipino, Hawaiian food poke. The parking is limited can only fit about 5 or 6 cars in the front. Good selection of food and prices are pretty high but I guess if you like fresh you gotta pay the price. Cute mom pops store located in Diamond Head. I wouldn't mind the drive again the food was worth it! And they packed your plate with a good amount.
Poke was alright but overall a very niche market spot. Cool to visit but prefer others!Food: 3/5
I really liked the spicy ahi poke. Your traditional spicy mayo type poke but it definitely was spicy and had a nice kick. I also got the local style ahi and thought it was good but I preferred the spicy. I would have gotten a poke bowl with the crispy pork belly next time but I was traveling back to the mainland and needed some poke to just take with me. They were really nice since I got there at 7:30 and they were still cutting up the poke. They were able to give me what I needed by 8am and had me on my way! Service was great and ambiance is like your normal small market store!
Extremely high quality fresh poke is served here. I’m so happy out of the many great poke options a local suggested I come here. There were only a few poke options left when I got here near closing time, but the two that I chose were both fantastic. I believe I got the spicy ahi and another ahi option. Both were outstanding! I also got the lau lau which is my favorite Hawaiian dish, and it was easily the best one that I had during this trip! The poke was a bit on the pricier end, but I thought that they also gave a very large portion. The spot doesn’t have much of a vibe and it’s a take out place; but You really can’t find fresher fish than this. I strongly recommend you add this spot to your list ?.
