Castro's - Honolulu
Castro's
Description
Set in Waikiki, this small Instagram-ready spot draws crowds for standout sandwiches — notably a famously tender brisket — inventive Caribbean-style French toast, fresh small plates, homemade jams and pickles, and solid desserts and coffee. Quality can be excellent though some items are market-priced. Expect counter ordering, limited seating and occasional inconsistencies in service. Best for brunch-seeking foodies and tourists willing to wait.

Something about naming your restaurant after a dictator that attracted me here. But overall I'd skip the food here and only grab coffee and maybe a dessert. The Ropa vieja was definitely old. Outside of that, the cafecito was good.
I find myself thinking about the brisket sandwich every couple of weeks. It’s the best brisket sandwich I’ve ever tasted, and nothing else has even come close. The side of pickled beans is surprisingly excellent as well; it pairs wonderfully with the already incredible brisket sandwich. My friends ordered different dishes, but I was so absorbed in my sandwich that I didn’t pay much attention to theirs. I’m sure their meals were good too!
