We discovered an authentic Japanese izakaya in a local plaza, and it was a delightful surprise. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the food is absolutely delicious. We dined there twice during our stay and left both times feeling very satisfied.
Shoyu-Ramen was consistently good, earning an 8/10. I tried the $12 valve set, which I would rate a solid 7/10. The grilled pork was exceptional, a strong 9/10, and I highly recommend it. The ambiance of the restaurant is a bit cozy, but it definitely has a great vibe. The waitstaff were attentive, refilling my water without needing to ask. Overall, I’d give this place an 8.25/10.
Wonderful, almost hole-in-the-wall place with great food, fair prices, and a vibe that made me feel like I was eating at an Izakaya in Japan. Here we found great Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki that I've been hunting for all trip, and as well as some delicious yakitori. Sitting inside, you could feel they have a strong connection to the community and a loyal local customer base. Definitely a huge plus considering how close it is to Waikiki and its abundance of tourist-trap type eateries.
This place is very good. Yakkitori was great. Ramen was very delicious, even better than ramen specific places on the island. Service great even though staff didn’t seem to know much English. Decor is done well, theme is Japanese baseball. Bathrooms nice and clean. Drinks cheap but good taste. We tried to go to another yakkitori place and felt unwelcome upon arrival. This place was very inviting. Would recommend even if not Japanese or local.Be warned there is sign on door indicating they are closed on Tuesdays temporarily due to staffingParking: Lots of open spots on weekday during lunch time
If you're a fan of izakaya, you'll be delighted by this place—it feels just like stepping into an izakaya in Japan. The decor is themed around Japanese baseball, and there’s a wide variety of pupus to choose from. Unfortunately, I found that many items on the menu were meat-based, which limited my options. However, meat lovers are sure to enjoy themselves here!
