Clay's, however, uses real fruit which makes the treat truly refreshing! We also appreciate that they offer a small size option. If you're looking for a bite to eat before enjoying your sweet treat, there's a vegan cafe just a few doors down.
I found Uncle Clay's HOPA to be good, offering some interesting flavors like matcha and lilikoi. While I wasn't overly impressed, it may be because I couldn't try their fancy options made with dairy milk due to my preference for non-dairy. Nevertheless, it's a fantastic spot to visit on a warm day for a refreshing treat.
The long line at this restaurant is completely worth it. I was pleased to discover that their shave ice is made with organic sugar (bone char free) and real fruit, rather than artificial coloring and corn syrup. I ordered the strawberry with haupia sauce, and also sampled my partner's guava and pineapple flavors. It was delicious and very refreshing. I would give it 5 stars, but I save the 5th star for vegan-only establishments.
We sampled a few shaved ice spots on the island, but found them all to be overly sweet and artificial. However, Clay uses real fruits in their shaved ice, giving it a truly refreshing taste! We appreciate that they offer a smaller size option as well. There is a vegan café next door where you can grab a bite before indulging in the sweet treat at Clay.
I had high hopes for Onkel Clay's Hopa, as they offered some interesting flavors like matcha and lilikoi. While I wasn't completely impressed, it could be because I couldn't try some of their more fashionable options that contain dairy. Overall, it's a nice spot to stop by on a hot day for a refreshing and tasty treat.
