This place has become my regular spot. The pork rolls are ok but all the other dishes are amazing! I've had the beef noodle soup (pho), egg noodles with won ton (mi hoanh thanh), dry noodles with crispy fried chicken, vermicelli with grilled pork and spring rolls, and they are all authentic and delicious. The staff is also very nice. View all feedback.
What Mazie Nicolas doesn't like about Pho Ngon:
Had the bbq chicken roll ...not worth it for $6.50. They need to step up their game like the two shops in marrickville. Cant believe shops have the nerve to serve this **** View all feedback.
The problem with loving Hanioan food is the lack of its availability in Sydney. Most Vietnamese haunts in Cabramatta boast of the best food but often it's Saigon specialities. The dish pictured is a Southern version of the Northern dish Bun Cha. In Hanoi if you climb tiny stairs and be willing to sit on baby stools you get awarded with Bun Cha my fav salad served with char grilled pork, assorted salad leaves including mint and vermicelli noodles. The dish at Pho Ngon comes with spring rolls (deep fried) and to be honest rather dry. The lime chilli sauce to accompany the salad adds the kick this dish needs. I've tried several things at this restaurants including the laksa, and pork chops with tomato rice. It's conveniently located and has ample seating for group events. There's also a Banh mi (Vietnamese bread roll) stand though the purist in me is surprised to hear they do cheese and chicken schnitzel rolls as well. It's not a place is recommend to people to make the journey for but if you are in the neighbourhood give it a try the friendly owners are worth the visit
Certainly agree that this eatery is in a convenient location being right outside of Central Station from the George Street tunnel exits though definitely not an eatery that speaks of quality. Dined here twice and in the second experience, I never saw the tea kettle reach my table. The broth is very dark, oily and quite dense. Meat is decent though chilli and the basil garnish didn't look too bright. The portion of the noodles servings are smaller than average for $12 Pho Tai. The restaurant is a big enough to bring a group. They provide a convenient 3 toilets. Perhaps their other foods are better as a few people order sandwiches, pork rolls and rice paper rolls here.
Not the best viet around here but if your on the run & this is the closest thing & you are in need of viet food then this can do. I have tried the bbq pork rolls & the pork & spring roll noodle salad bowl. The pork in the salad bowl could be cooked just a little longer so it isn't so soft when you put the sauce on top. Personally, I prefer the noodle bowls at another place down the road.
